Sprayed exhaust header??

I have had the same issue but like others, it is the off the radiator when the fan kicks in. I made the bad mistake of riding the bike with shorts on one time. It was 92 degrees F and I got caught in traffic. Sitting in non-moving traffic with shorts on was not a good idea. I almost had to get off the bike. My inner thighs were getting seriously burnt. :D

I can confirm that removing the windshield significantly reduces the problem with heat. I've been conducting an experiment to see if there is a noticeable improvement in MPG without the screen (don't have good data yet) but I noticed a reduction in heat almost immediately. I think the lowers deflect the radiator fan heat back towards the right leg. Next I may try rolling with windshield but no lowers to see if that makes a difference. I'll let you know.

On my R3T, I do not notice the heat being any better or worse than other bikes I've had; all are hot in 90 degree temps when in heavy traffic. Even my KLR cooks me in traffic jams. I did remove my R3T shield for the summer, though.

PT...

I'm riding everyday in mid-90's with a windscreen (summer screen) and no lowers. I had the lowers on over the winter and take'em off for the summer.... brutal if you don't.

Without the lowers, it's still crazy hot on the legs. The upper body is better because without the lowers, I'm getting airflow over the tank. I may try taking off the screen and see how that works.

Has anyone here tried this stuff?
Caswell Inc. - Tech Line Coatings

You can also, get the Techline coatings direct from TechlineCoatings.com. I've used many of the Techline coatings, and many of the industrial versions are the same coatings used by the big name coating companies. The surface prep and application are the key.

The problem with many coatings, is that they work well on mild steel, but since Stainless expands and contracts twice as much, most coatings do not hold up over time.

By far, the best coating for Stainless that I have found is from Calico Coatings, in Denver, NC (NASCAR country).

FWIW, good header wraps are more efficient than coatings, and less expensive.

Interesting. My headers on my Bonne are stainless, mandrel bent and then Jet Hot has never degraded at all, all these years. In fact, the Jet-Hot Sterling has actually improved in reflective luster.

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

hey tim,the company "jet hot heat coating" used to be in oklahoma city. they'd be your best bet. they coat the inside and the outside and it's claimed to keep the heat down quite well.
