Rocket Won't Start

UK folks should check DURITE suppliers - they do diode protected relays - though from Triumph is probably a safer bet.

I think the relays are proprietary to triumph. If you pump in the part number on the web nothing but triumph comes up?

if it is the relays with the regular blades and the connector will accept five blades u might be able to find one of these.
standard motor products HP677O it is a kit connector, rocker switch, fuse holder, relay 20/30 amp 12v with the diode. i used these to work the headlights. i looked on line cheapest was o little less than $13 with free shipping. i get them from a parts store called merles for $10 something.

My "local" dealer about a hundred miles away sent me a $25 OMRON Chinese relay marked thusly: G8JN-1A7T-D-DC12, with the sorta same diagram on it as the Hella relay with numbers 85 86 87 30 and additional numbers under the diagram 0871N21. It measures a titch larger, between a 1/16 and 1/8 inch in each dimension. Billed for Triumph part # T2502109. Virtually the same price from Bike Bandit.

I'm putting it in the empty #3 fan slot I stole the Hella relay from.

i would not like a Chinese relay in mine but u might be ok.
if the center relay was hanging down u might want to replace that one also as it may be rusted inside.
it might be interesting to snap it apart and see the rust inside or what the prob is.

Relays all cinched upright with cable ties.

Do I have a choice when the dealer sends me a Chinese relay?

Well, the bike starts, but I've now the engine light. I'll take it up the road tomorrow to get my front tire replaced and have the mechanic see what codes come up. If it shows the fan circuit, I'll be visiting the dealer that sent the relay.

Anyone notice Chinese relays in new Roadsters or Tourings?

You don't have much choice from the dealer unless you ask him what he can get, and he gives you a choice. My dealer will certainly look at alternate sources if Triumph isn't forthcoming, or something else might possibly be had cheaper or faster. As to dependability of Chinese relays, if I let the dealer plug it in.....it's his bugaboo! I I put it in and it dies young, at least I know where I can get them and I will buy a bag of them instead of one!

The starter relay is a 5 terminal relay while the others are 4. I'm not sure the 5 will fit if it's only a 4 terminal socket. The relays are cheap in my opinion...it seems only around $12 so I carry one of each type for just in case because you aren't going anywhere with a bad one. You might survive without the fan relay in cold weather. It has been reported, all have a protect diode to prevent transient spikes. In a pinch, a standard relay of the proper amperage from an auto store could get you home. I would swap around one of the stock relay into the engine management spot if that one is bad. Put the new auto store one in the fuel pump or fan position.

All mine are Chinese except the one that does the driving lights and that is a hella. They are all original.
