I agree - as long as one really is able to debug the marketing, and then make a true price/performance evaluation. That jacket of Frank's FAILED imo - only his upgrade saved his back. And he mentioned he had almost removed it because it was REALLY hot the day before., but with the high tech stuff today it is great to have options.
Yesterday I was doing some informal investigation. I would say an awful lot of gear is NOT as high tech as it seems. At the price - there is no way it can be. CE protectors does not mean protected if the support fabric fails. Similarly - Kevlar reinforced at impact areas is not the same as 100% Kevlar or 100% lined. Better than none - hell yes, but not the same. Look at your stitching. Find any non-perfect and it is a weakness. It it single/double or triple stitched?
OH COST! - I hear the wailing - not necessarily so. Many "name" brands have inferior protection to that some lesser marketed competitors have - because they would otherwise price their commerce chain out of the market.
I have LOADS of gear (as I suspect do many of us) - it's a "Search for Nirvana" thing. It's always easier to throw on a textile thing as they're comfy and tend to have lots of useful pockets. And generally pockets that do not make the gear feel tight or otherwise comfy.
It's less common to find Leather gear made this way. Leather works best if it is a close fit they say. Inside pockets are thus a bit of a waste of time. I have been looking for some time for the "perfect" Leather Jacket in this respect. Not found it yet. And ffs what happened to double zip Jackets?
Oh and while I am at it - HELLO - SOMETHING THAT IS NOT A JEANS CUT PLEASE.
Mild rant over.
