Triumph (or any other brand) Mesh fabric Jacket - fail but at least the structure held together to hold the back protector in place
Triumph (Knox brand?) back protector -
After this experience I would definitely recommend to anybody that they bin any soft protectors and replace with hard soon as possible. I know a foam back protector would have been next to useless.

@laraza Glad you are okay brother. I hope the recovery goes well. Some of the bumps may not look like much on the outside but linger long on the inside.
Hard plates are well useful in thinner fabric gear. They are made for sliding.
But soft pads (like airbags) are there to absorb bumps. Most hard plate has a soft lining layer.
Rather than have me question the pad - It has me question the basic principle of mesh (and I own a mesh Jacket). And I have been doing so since I first saw that jacket of Frank's.
If I am honest - I have not been that impressed with Triumph gear in general. It's why I have none except some gloves which were a present. The stiching went on one pair. The others I use more for garden work.
I even start to self-question my use of fabric gear in general up to a point - unless it 100% Kevlar lined and stitched.
I'd rather sweat a little than shred a little.
Under GOOD Leather is hard shell really necessary for road use? - and I say this knowing my Vanson has their hard plate back pad in.
On the track maybe. On the road it can't hurt. But necessary?.
Still amazes the F*CK out of me that there are loads of jackets sold with no back protection at all.

I have both leather and mesh with pads. It appears to me the mesh jacket did it's job in this case. I would not expect any mesh to survive after doing its job at those speeds. It is amazing sometimes the things we take for granted. All I can say is it will make me examine and maybe upgrade some of my gear. I love the mesh in hot weather just as I choose to wear a modular instead of a full face. We all know the trade off for comfort, but with the high tech stuff today it is great to have options.
