Roadster vs Touring model

Took my 05 into trade,at the dealer in Lex. KY, on a 2013 Roadster or touring model! I Was offering my 05 , which has has all options including CB and Skyfi radio. Bike runs excellent an always garaged, 18,00 miles on her! They offered me $4,300 as a trade?
I want to get a bike that is easier to put thru the twisty back roads and . I was considering a Touring model. I want the best of both worlds.I stll want the full power feel of my R 3 but with improved handling thru turns. Any suggestions that are not of the sexual nature would be appreciated . rumbler05
 
I believe you need to move on to a totally different bike if you want better handling. If you have already owned a 05 then you basically have owned a Roadster less of course the foot pegs are different and power. However they are just about twins when you're talking about handling. A Roadster isn't going to handle any better than a Classic and surely not a R3 Touring. You might need to consider a Trophy SE in which it will handle better. Or maybe a Thunderbird. Another words if you want better handling then you need to move from the Rocket line up in order to really benefit to a better handling bike.
 
Keep your Rocket and buy a Speed Triple , Tiger Sports , Sprint .. any of the smaller Triumphs really. That's what I did , I wanted a bike to go and play in the twisties but also wanted a comfortable bike for trips and two up riding.
 
If confession is good for the soul, then I must confess that riding the twisties has never been my strong point, in fact you could say I downright suck at them.

It never became so apparent however until I bought my R3 Touring, It just feels heavier at lower speeds than any of my other bikes.


I test drove the Roadster recently and in fact purchased it, ( but haven't taken delivery yet.)


My first impression of the Roadster for what its worth, is that in the very short test ride it felt lighter and more responsive than my Touring.

With that said there are plenty of members here who have the Touring and whose skill levels far exceed mine, that ride the hell out of the twisties.


My suggestion is to find a Touring and test ride it and judge for your self.
And then go buy a speed triple

I actually have a lot more to say crept you made me omit all sexual references.....
 
I reckon the Rocket is the most versatile bike I've ever owned. Less than an hour and you've bolted all the accessories needed to have a 'Tourer' .. get home , strip off the saddlebags , screen , sissybar etc and you've got a ' Bruiser' that is capable beyond it's weight and size around town and through the twisties. Yet to find a bike that will carry out both roles as well as a Rocket.

If truth is to be told....... None of us are on a race track. Even if I know I can take a corner quicker than I have in the past - I wont push it, not at the risk of fellow rides (Or any other road users). Also comes down to being a bit more sensible (Only a bit tho)
BTW Jim, I think you should include "Sexual References" into you signature - Along with "Beer Drinking" Just Saying
 
In hindsight - wish I'd gone for a "T". You can get the full power - no problems. The slimmer tyres are going to make it nimbler. If I could find a way to fit a slimmer tyre (say 200) rear I would.
 
I have several times road to the dearer and looked at several various bikes. Sit on them have them fire up a few ,than ride the R3 home loving the sit back position and the awesome throaty sound of the torque at a finger tip. May have to take the advice of picking up a second bike. Who knows if I get one that is the same color my wife may not even notice the addition. Thanks for the imput
