Has anyone tried the Rivco solo rear rack? I bought one on ebay and although they said they would send one in a sealed box, after the auction closed they first sent me a Bonne/America rack by mistake and then they said they didn't have the rack they sold me in stock in a sealed box and they would send me "open stock" instead. The "rack" they sent me does not fit to the contour of the fender where it is supposed to attach. Can only attach by the center screw. I wonder if they sent me an unusable "display" instead of an actual rack? Anyway if anyone has experience using these racks, good or bad, I'd like to know about it.

Yes, Drag, that is the one.

What is not shown in the pic you attached, though, is the underseat portion where you are supposed to attach the rack to the rear fender with three screws that go into the holes where, alternatively, the pillion seat attachment screws would go.

I have a pillion seat and that portion of the seat that attaches via those three screws is contoured to fit the fender.

The "rack" the seller sent me was, in that area, completely flat, probably 1/4" thick. No contour at all. So, although the mounting holes in the "rack" all lined up with the corresponding holes in the fender, only the center "rack" hole actually "touched" the appropriate (center) fender hole and the right and left outbound "rack" holes were, when the "rack" was centered on the fender, several mms out from the corresponding fender holes. The whole thing sort of "rocked" or "pivoted" on the center hole "fulcrum".

Anyway, to make a long story short I emailed the seller and they said please send the "rack" back and we'll refund your money. No harm done other than a waste of my time. But I don't know whether to order another one direct from Rivco or not. If the thing doesn't fit it doesn't fit and I'm not interested in bending the fender to make the bike fit the rack if you know what I mean.

jimmy,
scroll down the link
to the second picture.
its shows contour bend ( side view )
and if you look close you can see holes
where it attachs
Link Removed

I have one , it also has a clear ( 1/2" thick )
rubber bumper pad under rack, so it will not scratch
the paint . Sets up a wee bit off fender so can get
bungee cord hook attached

PS: if it looks like the link hole line up but,
its just flat not bent , you could cover end
with rag @ bend ,put in vise , get a straight pull from
helper while you hit it with a rubber hammer, chrome may
crack a bit, you could touch up aluminum paint / or clear
Or get re chromed that would be a little more expensive
I doubt you'll get money back

Thanks, Drag, for the additional pic and advice. Dang, it does look pretty flat to me. The surface I'm concerned about is the part beyond the bend you're talking about, a curvature between the right and left lower screw holes matching that curvature across the surface of the fender rather than along it from front to back. The "rack" I received also has the rubber grommet thing near the outbound end. Sorry I don't know the appropriate terminology so I'm struggling to find the words to describe the problem.

The seller has agreed, in writing, through ebay's internal messaging system, to refund directly into my Paypal account my purchase price and shipping both ways, and has been very apologetic about the transaction. Perhaps that is because I had in hand both the Bonne/America rack AND the Rocket "rack" at the time whilst I paid only for the latter. I mailed both back yesterday with delivery confirmation. I'm just trying to determine whether I should repeat the exercise by ordering directly from Rivco.

Jimmy - Let me know if you need a photo of the rack fitted & I'll take my seat off & start snapping.

I think it's a seriously good bit of kit, but a little awkward to tie things to because it follows the curve of the fender so closely.

Jim ,
I have purchased maybe
10 different items from these folks

http://www.newr3.com/index.html
each time they send it fast and items
are packed well for shipping .
They even put a piece of candy in shipment box
So far never had a problem .
Not sure what you paid , buying it from e bay
Sometimes saving a few bucks buying from an unknown
is not worth the pain in ass.
Glad your getting money back & shipping cost.

PS: Owl like the carbon bear claw ( think thats what it is )
not just painted
