I learned something about myself and my bike last weekend as i was coming home from the wet side of washington. It seems as though i get uncomfortable after about 110-130 miles and need a break. I also learned that when i made my arse slide back and my back go straight i was able to ride for longer periods of time (sitting on my tailbone naturally. sliding back has me sitting on my arse more).

I am thinking about how to make this more comfortable for me and my passenger and have come up with a couple of ideas.

1) new seat. something like a corbin or the triumph dual tour seat. something that will just bolt on and be done.

2) try and find a different foot position to make the straight back style sitting position more comfortable (was considering rearsets a while back anyways but since i occasionally have a passenger now that may not be an option as her seat needs to be modified for comfort regardless of which option.

3) take the bike to a custom upholstery shop and shell out big $$ to get a seat custom formed for my passenger and my particular body.

i was leaning towards option 3 but used seats are acceptably priced on eBay and have me thinking of the dual tour option.

how much more comfortable is the dual tour compared to the standard seat? Corbin compared to the standard seat.

I am not into the idea of putting something on top of the seat (for me anyways, riding 2 up i wouldn't be pushing it hard enough to make a difference) and sitting on that since i nearly fell off in a corner once with one of those.

also if anyone knows of another option i may look into.

thanks,
Steve

I would recommend before spending a lot of bucks on custom seats and finding out it was not the bang for the buck, try adjusting your foot pegs. I did buy a Triumph long haul seat on e-bay and like it a lot. However I found the extended foot pegs in the proper place gives me multiple positions when riding. Also, putting a backrest for my tired lower back did wonders.:)

Ditto on the back rest. I haven'd yet seen a soft seat from Triumph. I am to the age where the more I recline, the better I like it. I like my feet out front and a good back rest. When I start sitting upright with my feet farther to the rear, it soon becomes uncomfortable across the shoulders and upper back.

Classic seat .. i reckon it's as comfortable as you'll get or need. Me and Catherine did a 700 klm straight through ride at Easter. Canberra did the same miles heading home.. we're both running Classic seats. Triumph have reduced the price here in Oz, got mine brand new for $160.

Hey Steve,
Take a look at Rich's. He has been doing MC seats for years and is VERY good at matching asses to upholstery.

Thanks again for ALL your hard work and the great time we all enjoyed in Packwood last August.
As a newby on the Rocket, it was real swell to meet you and other Rocket riders.
I hope there may be another Rocket gathering in the Northwest US put on by this forum.

You might think about the Rumble in the Rubies - Elko, NV this June. A bunch of us are heading out on the 13th for a great time.
