Problems being too tall?

So far I absolutely love my R3, and everyone has made some fantastic suggestions in my other thread regarding my options for a single headlight and fairing, thanks for that.

One issue I am noticing is because of my height (6'5) and long legs, I find my riding position a little awkward.

Has anyone else experienced this? What are my options? I plan on getting an aftermarket seat, because the stock seat seems to be at least 5' of foam which seems to elevate me and exaggerate the problem.

Is it possible to have the foot pegs for the shifter and rear brake moved forward?

I am open to any suggestions or possible fixed to feeling cramped, sitting on top of the bike, it's that my elbows almost touch my knees while I'm riding which seems strange to me.

I seem to be in a comfortable riding position on my girlfriends Harley Softail due to her lower scooped out seat and her ape hangar handle bars.

The R3 is an amazing bike, I just need some guidance in how to modify it to make it more comfortable for me...

Not trying to be a smartass, but wasn't the purpose behind the Roadster vs Standard/Classic the pegs moved further back?

I'm 6'2" with 36" inseam and ride a Standard with Classic floor boards. What I've done might sound like I was trying to set it up for a shorter rider, but just the opposite is true. The saddle is a Corbin Young Guns that sits down into the bike and more forward than the stock seat. I've also dropped the bars down as far as they go without hitting the tank and installed Rivco Risers. Before the Progressive shocks and springs it rode like a dump truck and before the boards/seat/risers ... an uncomfortable dump truck (very fast dump truck).

I suggest you put feelers out for someone who might be interested in swapping your Roadster pegs for Classic style floor boards. You could also just do what I did and buy the complete set new and hold onto the stock parts for possible resale.

The changes I made were because it was uncomfortable for me in stock trim, it felt cramped and I had to lean too far forward which hurt my neck. It's a different bike now and anyone under 6' might have difficulty riding it, but it fits me like a glove.

I'm one who didn't like the rearward move of the pegs with the Roadster yet there are others who'd prefer them. Maybe you can find someone to swap your Roadster set up for that off a Standard. Floorboards off a Classic also give you more flexibility/options.

I'm 5'11" yet I find even the Standard pegs not far enough forward so I have highway pegs mounted so I can heel and toe them or stretch out, giving me three positions if you like. Can't work out why Triumph seems to be going off forward pegs. The T'birds are too close for me, and while the previous America/Speedmaster was near perfect, Triumph has shifted them back now too. What's with this????

If you want to look at bars, you could start by looking at this thread http://www.r3owners.net/custom-mods...ebars.html?highlight=HELP!!+Taller+handlebars. You could also look at risers or even adjusting the tilt of your current bars.

I have a set of standard pegs from my 05 Standard. I put the footboards on for a long trip and have thought about going back to pegs (since I'm not touring again anytime soon). My issue is they put my legs almost straight (I'm 5'11"). Might talk a swap with you IF the peg rails are a straight swap. You'd have to include your shifter and brake line (same here). I'm 6'6" tall and ride a Rocket Classic...fits me very nicely. I've replaced the stock seat with a Triumph dual gel seat (very comfortable...I am not a fan of the Corbin or Mustang seats after having them on several bikes). The stock Triumph backrest that fits the Triumph seat was too "forward", pushing me too upright. So I had an aluminum block fabricated that fit the seat opening (exact copy of the plastic insert) and would take a Corbin backrest. Installed highway pegs....very comfortable ride. Guys like us are too big and long-legged for the "pegs back" setup...

I am 6'4" and ride a Classic also. I tried the Standard and didn't like the pegs. I have crash bars and highway pegs along with the Classic floor boards and a Corbin seat and back rest. I have installed the throttle lock, handlebar risers and Corbin backrest. With this set up I am able to set the throttle at 75 mph, lean back and put my feet out, turn the tunes up and ride. My boys tell me I'm riding the fastest easy chair they have ever seen. I have seen complete Classic floor boards and rails on ebay several times.

Like T Evans, I am also 6'4" tall and ride a Classic. My bike also happens to be the extremely fast Burgundy & Cream color. Floorboards, from somebody, may be a solution for you. It allows a bit more fore and aft movement than pegs and my only issue is corner clearance which isn't hurt too much because the floorboards are hinged and will tilt up with slight grounding.

My Corbin seat is much more comfortable than the stock seat. The stock seat seems to hit me mid way up the butt cheeks and right below the boney part of my butt. Couple hundred miles or so and I am ready to get off. The Corbin I can ride all day as it does not do this.

As far as the seat I have a russell day long saddle and it made all the difference in the world.
