I've always liked replacing chrome with powder coating and that looks good.
I've learned though that it must be done right. I had some done and the preparation was apparently very flawed, with the coater just scuffing up the chrome a bit.
A good friend of mine is a retired nuc welder, a member of our local Saint's Car Club, and an excellent painter/powder coater. He bead blasted some chrome bits for me and they looked like flat aluminum when he was finished.
We used to have a good local chrome shop and he'd charge a minimum to throw one's chrome bits into the vat for about 30 minutes to remove the chrome before powder coating.
