Poor Gas Mileage...?

gas mileage

D&Ds,K&N ,05 standard 52,000mi check mileage every time I fill up,37 or38mpg for almost 7 years.I got 40mpg one time on a slow ride.I think it just a matter of the right tune to get better gas mileage.I wish I could change the rear end gearing or change 5th gear to be taller or 6th gear(I`m always looking for it)LOL

I wish our gas was that cheap try paying $8.50 gallon !!!!!

Maybe the point is that gasoline is going to go over $4 gal. and some of us may not have the discretionary funds to spend that you obviously have.

And even a 2300cc bike should get better than 30mpg, although mine doesn't. The M109r that I traded in on the Rocket would get nearly 50 mpg on the highway. And **** near as fast as the Rocket.

ethanol fuel?

i'm guessing that the ethanol fuel may be contributing to your poor fuel economy. i don't really notice any difference with it, and it's about all we can get nowadays. your fuel mileage is directly tied to your right hand.

I am running in my new R3T. 400 miles to date and 27 miles per gallon. Kinda hoping they set it rich for running in and will set it leaner for regular use. 27 mpg when you are being as light on the throttle as you are in the first 500 miles seems a little excessive. Can see it getting to 20 mpg when I start using it in earnest.

just checked mine this weekend: 2009 r3t, with 3,000 miles.
i got 37.5 mpg on a 110 mile trip thru the Ocoee River gorge.

i am happy!

:)

With my brave little grey one , on 75000km (46 600 miles) I made an average of 32 miles/US gallon ( with standard wind screen , full power , stocks exhaust , stock air filter . I made often runs with a fellow captain who have the same grey one except he had removed Cat and secondaries . We go at same speed on long motorways travels , his bike ALWAYS drank 1-1,5 L/100km less than mine !
Curiously my beast have nearly the same appetite at 100 (62 ) or 130 km/H (81 MPH) ! the MPG begins to go down under 90 km/H (56 MPH) .

Another data point for y'all..........

I rode today from Washington DC to Penn State, about 4 hours. Some interstate, some hills, etc. I got 38mpg.

I wasn't conservative, but didn't dog it either.

Fuel light came on at 154 miles. Fueled up at 177 miles. Took 4.65 gallons. I was sweating it for a while, and it seemed I still had another gallon or more left.

Hey, all you guys getting these high mileage figures, please tell us what state you have your bikes configured in. Are they stock? are they modified?

It really seems the mileage is all over the map. My 05 R3 standard with underseat K&N filter and Stock pipes with cat removed got 32 mpg regardless of how I rode it. My 08 R3T with K&N underseat filter, TORS and Waynes modified tune gets 30 mpg (combined city and highway). If I recall, I got 30 mpg with the R3T in stock form as well. Go figure.... :D
