Is their anyone out there in R3 land who can tell me the sizes / details of the internal and external output bearings, I am in the process of trying to fix an 07 Rocket that destroyed both. So any details I can get for the engineering crowd repairing the cases will an imense help.
Also were there any upgrades or changes to the bearings during the manufacture of R3's and are the bearings different in the Roadster.

Absolutely any information will be of value and appreciatted.

the new bearing changed over to sealed bearings grease packed your and earlier models were fee with engine oil. There was also a rumor that the bore was out of alignment which could explain why Triumph change to whole new units in the update kit verses sending the bearings. Of course it could also be the sealed bearings where a different OD the the originals? If your s were unsealed chances are you have the older second gear which you might want to do the full update if you already have the engine out of the bike.

do your self a favour and take the steel plate covers and the screen out of the sump pan and have a look see and clean them. Note in the picture below the screens and covers laying the the left of my hand. You need to clean them and have a look see as they catch a lot of dibris.

If you seee a lot of debris that looks like somthing other then machiniing swarf left over from manufacture the if you just have the rningr out of lifted in the back enough to pull the final drive. I would build a box the will go around the head which will make a good engine stand . and split the motor so you can inspect the main bearings.

make sure you put the cam cover on before roll it upside down use just a couple bolts no gasket it will protect it and keep things clean.

Thanks Warp for the info and pics, the box is a good idea as removal of the sump was to be my next move.
Are the bearings only available from Triumph, or can they be sourced from aftermarket suppliers.
What was the problem with second gear.
The machine shop has said there is enough meat to cut and fit a new face for a stainless insert to mount a new internal bearing onto.
They also rcommend a complete strip down, to wash out any debris that may be located within engine. Which is well out of my league of mechanical knowledge, it was a bloody nightmare getting the motor out my son and I are still not speaking.

Well hope to get time this week to mount the engine, on a borrowed car engine stand after I have made some mounting brackets and have a look in the sump. This will be further in the bowels of a bike motor than I have been before.

A week of contrasts, unable to get into the motor as family illness (7mth old grandson) comes first I was told.
But on the upside I would like to recommended andy@ncyyamaha.com , he has been a great help with pricing and detailing parts that are in the upgrade kit.
Delivered to my door for almost half the price quoted locally, The local Dealers are not impressed.
Once I get started I will attempt to post pic's as I go.
