That's a 'telling' picture. I don't want to get in a pissin contest, but if you look at the contact patch on the rear and then the front, it's about the same and that boy has the bike 'heeled' over pretty far.

Paul makes the statement that 'in the long run car tires don't work'. Is that a fact based on his personal experience or heresay gathered from extraneous sources. I much prefer Gunshots personal observations. After all, he has the Eagle under his butt, neither Paul, not myself, nor you, nor anyone else here runs a car tire that I know of. I do know a fella that has one mounted to his VTX1800 and has run a car tire for 2 years with no issues for him but, that's not a Rocket so it's not germane.

From reading Gunshots posts over the long haul, I consider him to be an informed and astute rider and honset. I'm looking forward to his 'play by play' test of the Eagle both in performance in longetivity. I'd also like to see you guys move the bulk of these posts (starting with Gunshots first post) to a seperate thread so we can all follow the saga of the Eagle with less clutter.

Again, this is an interesting scenario that bears our full attention. Gunshots is our personal 'test pilot'.

ME 880 removed from R3 after 3600 miles, Large percentage of miles were 2 up. Zero burnouts 5/16" of total rubber left. Tread Depth in center of Tire still measures 5/64. If you cant see your center tread your riding on 5/64 or .09 inches of casing or less.​

So anyone have an opinion on what your insurance co. will say when your in a crash and they are trying to figure out who is at fault,and they notice an improper rear tier. The ins.cos. are getting better at excuses to not pay. Dum de dum dum Jack

What kind of mileage you all getting out of your front tire? Wondering if I'll need a new one before Nashville?

This is the side profile of the same tire, Contact patch is very questionable at this point, This is not the first Metzler I have had this problem with. I check tire pressure at least weekly and run at max tire pressure. With the wife and I and gear a very typical load would be in the 475# range. I do accelerate hard but draw the line at burnouts. any side by side competion is usualy from 2nd gear roll. I am not attempting to point fingers at Metzler (read disclamer). Just pointing out that their intended tire for this bike doesn't work for me. and today they are the only motorcycle tire company making the right size.

Front tire is still in good to very good condition, I would think it would go at least 10,000 mi.

That a good question Jack, I have a Good friend that travels the country doing insurance seminars. I will ask. My first thought is I hope I don't have to find out. My second thought is maybe it will be a crash & burn and they don't check the ashes:flame:

Piggr is right on. A DOT approved and tested tire is generic. So long as you run the right (applicable to the rim width) size and speed rating, you are good to go. I'm not saying that insurance companies will not try to weasel out of a claim, after all, they don't make money by paying out claims, they make money by disallowing claims. We all know only too well, that motor vehicle insurance is only good so you can get your plates. When you have a claim, they are mostly a PITA.

I have to add, that after looking at Gunshots picture of the Metz carcass, I' have come to the conclusion tahat I've used rubbers that were thicker.
