After 3400 miles on the Goodyear I am still impressed with it handeling and wear. I can only measure 1/32 of tread wear and that is only 200 miles short of the milage I removed the ME880. I spent 2 days of serious twisties in WV and KY and never had a moment when the Bike or tire felt even slightly out of control. The trade off it seems is the parking lots with uneven surfaces and the initial steering input to roll the bike into a turn. cornering is a blast and knowing that you have that much tread on the ground with the capacity to carry more weight instills a secure feeling. This tire at 3400 miles runs so smooth at Hiway speeds that it will run straight down the road with no hands on the tiller for as long as you dare. Don't try this with a cupped Metzler on the back. Front tire w/7000 miles is starting to show some slight wear and cupping on sides, I have bumped the pressure up to 42psi to help even out the wear.

It seems to stick just as good as the metz. a quick blip of the throttle brings the front end up. I am not a hole shot type so I can't relate there, but with almost 8" on tread on the ground I'm thinking it could be hard on the clutch.

snuffcityrider,
Aren't you from Houston? Gulfcoast BMW/Triumph, formerly British USA? Anyway, I just had a rear tire put on there and it was $300 out the door. Still alot of dough, but a good bit less than what you paid..

My Metz is wearing pretty good...

Well, I have to say that putting on 2585 has brought the bike to just at 5K and the rear is still round, not flat in the middle and according to everyone that peered at the rear tire I have very little wear. I never measured it new so I don't actually know. The front is showing a little cupping in the crown, very little. I run 41 in the back and 38 in the front. Maybe my difference is coming about due to the fact that I run very little interstate. I mostly run 2 lane roads. On the Nashville trip, I maybe rode 300 miles of Interstate total. There is absolutely nothing interesting on the Interstate, It's supremely boring looking at the sides of big trucks and looking at fat ladies with their bare feet propped up on the dashes of their cars while going by me (their spouses are driving of course). Nuthin like the smell of feet in the car to cause spousal arousal:D

We'll see how the tire scenario goes. If I get 10K or a full season out of the Metz, I'll install another one. E&C only average 10K on the potato bike tires so around 10K is a reasonable figure.

I believe it all has to do with how you accelerate from a stop and how much straight line, high speed driving you do. I tend to short shift the Rock and accelerate progressively and use the engine braking as much as I can without relying on the brakes except to complete a stop.

We'll see how it goes. I won't rule out an automotive tire at this point.

So let me get this straight. Running the recommended 42psi on the rear decreases the contact patch but increases the mileage. Seems odd to impose so much pressures on so narrow of a ground contact.

Gunshoot

What people need to remmember is that you may have more contact on the straight you DO not have any were near as much in a turn. And if you look at your tire there is very little tread on the edges.
I don't think I could ever make that trade off.

Besides

Anyone who has been riding bikes for any lengh of time knows bike tires don't last as long as car tires. If your bike tire lasted for ever that would mean your not riding. :D
Bike Tire's are a lot softer so they wear faster thats just part ot the package.

I'm from the Waco area, I guess it cost more in freight;). Lone Star in Austin will also get you out the door at that price.

It's not so much that they wear faster, just that they cost so much. I could put a set of tires (4) on my truck for what I paid for front and rear.:D
