In the middle of an oil change, I discover that I don't have the proper k&n 204 oil filter, but I do have a k&n 303 that fits, and is a little taller of a filter compared to the k&n 204, thoughts? Same diameter too.

Can't help you there. I use the Mobil M1-108 oil filter from my local auto parts store.

Thanks for the info on the Mobil 1 filter, I found one of them and a k&n at a pep boys in Tucson, just in case.

Pete if the 3 is a little longer you will just notice a color stripe between the engine and the oil chrome cover. Mine is almost a inch longer and works well. As long as you can put the cover over the filter to protect it you will be fine.

I forgot about the cover, I removed it at my first oil change and never reinstalled.

When you're ready to step up go with a PC Racing Flo (Stainless Steel Reusable Filter)

Part # PCS1. $119 bought mine on Amazon $89 + free shipping.

Just rinse it out...problem solved. Even comes with an extra rubber gasket.

A friend of mine (a Yamaha R1 rider) swears by this filter and bugged me to buy one until I did. I've got to admit he was right about it being 1st rate, (don't tell him I said he was right though, his ego doesn't need further inflation).

K&N is only just now starting to enter the market with their version of this type filter.

(I was using K&N oil filters on my Rocket before I bought this one from PC Racing, and I use their air filters and oil filters on my other vehicles so I'm not knocking K&N by any means.)
