Official Upgrade Kit Poll, Who has and hasn't gotten it

Ditto!!! I want to see "Triumph" thrive. If no problems are encountered, no upgrade should be in order. In my case, I had several issues that will be alleviated by the upgrade. Because Triumph has been such a stand up company, I will definitely buy another Triumph hopefully in the not too distant future. Triumph rocks!

I am trying to get the whole brochure.

Mine is a 06 and jumps from second completely into third once and a while when I donwshift to second I don't think I get it in fully when I am turning and as soon as I am thru the turn and Throw the boost to her she will grab third Its a little early I would like to hold to 6500 before I bang third but it at least goes into the next gear not inbetween.

Very strange. So from 244280, 2nd gear was changed, from 333902 four of the extra teeth were ground off of the dog ring for 2nd gear.

From 246088, first gear was changed.

From 246087, fourth and fifth gear were changed.

I heard back those were the only pages that had anything to do with the tranny.

This thread scares me.

This "Upgrade Kit" is a silent customer goodwill action that Triumph has decided to do for the time being. I am sure, that Triumph, having limited resources, felt that doing this through through their dealership network was the only way they could help those in need and still afford to do so.

So, I am sure that each is approved on a case by case basis that is judged by parameters that I know nothing about.

Again, Triumph does not have to do this. This is not a recall. This is not something that will happen to every bike. Some bikes will get passed over due to things like abuse. Bikes that have no verifiable problems will not get it. We don't really know what problems will qualify a bike except for possibly the major issues.

Triumph's legal and ethical responsibility to these bikes ended at the end of the two year warranty period. After that, they owe no one nothing.

I don't want to see a thread like this imply that all bikes should get an upgrade kit as in a recall situation. I wouldn't doubt that this will cause a frenzy of inquiries and in a worse case scenario cause Triumph to suspend doing this for the few who actually need it.

I have to agree with Tomo.

If you approach this with a carte-blanc attitude, Triumph may well suspend the silent recall. It's better to leave 'sleeping dogs' lie and deal with it on a case-by-case basis with respective dealers.

The reason why I say that is because Triumph Bonnevilles '02-'06 had an issue with the rear wheel breaking spokes and puncturing tires. It was well documented on a couple Bonneville Forums and a bunch of riders went to the NHTSA and filed a complaint. Triumph was repairing the problem as it arose, under warranty or if the warranty was expired, at no charge but once the worm got out of the can, Triumph quit honoring the fix and the NHTSA never found it to be a defect that would result in a recall. Consequently, any spoke breakage past the warranty period is the customers baby now.

I'd hate to think that if Triumph suspended the good will fix and a Captain's bike went south...well, might as well sell her for scrap. Sort of a 'Cash for Clunkers' philosophy.

Probably the one good thing about the upgrade (at least for me) is I have a workorder stating 'All upgrades completed'. That should be valuable if I traded the bike or sold it outright as I'd not want to (If I was looking at a used R3) buy one without the upgrade installed.

That would be my first question if I was a buyer looking to buy a used R3.

I am quite pleased to report that last September when my 2005 R3 began making all manner of grinding, scraping, and squealing sounds right around the 6,000 mile mark, Triumph stepped up and completely took care of the problem, despite the bike being well outside of warranty.

At first, they thought that it was a small problem, and they offered to provide free parts, but I would have to pay for the labor. That was pretty fair I thought. But then, they had the dealer cut apart my oil filter which revealed a jackpot of aluminum shavings, at which point Triumph authorized the so called "upgrade kit."

I was quite distraught when this all happened, but was extremely pleased that Triumph stepped up and took care of me. They've won a customer for life by doing so.

Now, the bike runs like an absolute champ. I keep waiting for something to blow up, but nothing has (knock on wood) so far.

Up Grade Kit

I haven't had a break down yet but, I do have the paint can rattle. I think maybe the survey should have this as an option as well. I don't have any problem yet but, I do have a concern because of the noise.

My '06 Std has developed a new issue in the last couple of weeks. Occasionally when pulling away slowly from a stop there will be a noisy shudder from the front left of the engine. It doesn't sound like metal-to-metal grinding but it is loud and I can feel the shudder through my left foot and through the clutch. I know little about about clutch and transmission inner workings but an initial thought would be clutch plates vibrating against each other. Another thought would be first gear is slipping on the dog gears.

Thoughts?

just over 23k. Warranty expired last August.
