Normal intake clatter?

According to Sonny, the R3 intake noise is beautiful music. Mine makes a 'chirping' sound with open secondaries and K&N's.
Ah yes, but ...................................... @sonny god bless him, is occasionally wrong.
The crickets will chirp - if you get the fuelling;ignition balance wrong. Oh no - wait. Yes! - What! --- what!

Being new to a 2005 R3 I'm not sure what is the norm... the bike has a RAM AIR intake and DnD pipes. To me, I hear an awful lot of clatter coming from intake and I need to know if this is normal. I have an open air intake on my other bike and all I hear is a loud suction noise. Please advise. Thanks!

I noticed the same (?) thing when I went to K&Ns. Everyone was talking about the chirping, which I do hear but too many rock concerts in my younger days means it is a very mild distraction. What I did hear, "woodpeckers," was possibly what you're describing. You might try taking a short ride without your helmet to see if it goes away or changes. I think my helmet (an Arai) was causing that sound (valves- see next post) to be amplified for some strange reason. I have a different helmet and now it's not so much. Here's the link..
