New Map & 12 minute Tune

If I install a new to me map, and make no other changes. Do I need to do the 12 minute tune.

I would say Yes the ECU will reset and learn new adaptions, I always do the 12 min idle timed from when the cooling fan kicks in.. nothing to loose only gain,,you can relaxand have a 12 minute beer while you wait

As long as you still have your O2 sensor turned on otherwise it will be a waste of 12 minutes much easier to just use TuneECU or Tuneboy and use the reset the adaptives feature

Hans you mention Tuneboy.. but I was told you dont have the O2 sensor on with Tuneboy as it has its own bypass.. correct or not ??

Tuneboy is the $500 version of TuneECU (which is Freeware), it does much the same with a couple of extra features and to be fair it is probally not much different to the TuneECU which most of us use

with regards to the O2 sensor not being required and Turned Off or unchecked when the Tuneboy is installed..

Some Tunes created by some reputable Tuners turn off the O2 sensor on Std bikes, as the triumph Narrow Band O2 sensor is a eviromental aid for triumph to pass EPA standards a it only serves to make the bike as lean as possible at idle and low throttle aplication therefore it also undoes the good a tuner does by fattening up up the bottom end to get rid of snatchy lowthrottle and decel poping also the backfireing thru throttle bodies is effected.
But the PCV +AT O2 eliminator (which feeds the Triumph ECU lies that it is as lean as possible in the bottom end) and Wide Band O2 sensor used by the PCV and It's mate the Auto Tune only folow the AFR's you feed it but due to the fact that the O2 sensor and Auto Tune does not work below 2%throttle we then add the 10-20 value to the fuel table in the 0% throttle column which effectivly eliminates decel pop and a snatchy low throttle

i go in a bit of detail for the bennift of others who are still trying to learn this and to try to avoid confusion, Tune boy is Just another software program like TuneECU but it cost $$ and requires a modified cable and a coded key to operate.
I answer to your question YES you can run ANY tune in your bike with the O2 sensor box unchecked (turned off) to stop it leaning of your mixure at low throttle applications and Idle, the 12 minute tune (also achieved by rideing the bike for 15minutes as well)is just the stock O2 sensors way of leaning of your tune so if you were to go in and richen up your tables you would it would unrichen them. this was all explained to me by Wayne Tripp when I was fixing my tune in my bike but it kept reverting to the backfiring and poping on deceleration becaused I had it (O2) turned on
this was all before I got fed up with the the Ecu trying to play silly buggers and bought the PCV +AT

OK hans thanks for that I never really had interest in the Tuneboy but I commented on a post problem wayback regarding an running with an unchecked O2 sensor .. I was informed that Tuneboy has the O2 sensor disconected as it had some way of compensating internally, thats why I asked..
