Need help getting bike to start

Well then . . that makes it the clutch switch . . . by about 90%

Still could be just a loose wire somewhere in the starter circuit but the clutch sounds like the most likely

Hi Tony, welcome back!! How's the shoulder?? As I remember having the same exact situation after coming back from ES. It turned out to be the battery bolts. If you used different bolts meaning longer ones they have a zinc coating on them that is somewhat non conductive. Did you try a jump?? That may give you the umph to make the difference.

I vote ignition switch.
When Lon released the clutch lever and the starter drive bumped into the flywheel, it wiggled the wires back just enough to make contact and start.
Wiggle the key and switch around a little bit and see what happens.
Glad to have ya back home tony.

TMac, you said that you have a Tuneboy...

can you connect to the ECU?
If you can, it should throw error codes on the Diagnostic software. It may lead you to the problem.

If no error codes on the Diag software, fill over to the sensor screen and take a screenshot and sent it to TSTom or Pigr, they may be able to discern the problem from the sensor values.

Just a thought...

I was having the same symptoms with my 08 and they had to replace the ignition switch assembly under warranty. They said it was pretty common. I'd hate to have to do it out of warranty, it took a replacement of all the locks on the bike so the key would match. What a pain in the ars.

Had the same problem on mine. Turned out to be the starter relay. It clicked and appeared to work when tested on a meter but in place it wouldn't always work - possibly arcing. Cost £7. Worth checking the cheaper easy options first. Your tuneboy will indicate if all your switches are working although the starter switch option always shows the same value whether on or off.

On my 05 I had a problem it would not do anything, I stopped to get gas and came out and and would not start I checked the battery volts it was 11. 59 it has to be 12 or more so check that also, just my 2 cents,
