One of our members, @Bedifferent, makes some wind deflectors which attach to a windshield and deflect the wind from one's hands. Those who use them say they are very effective. See here. This might be something to consider if you use a windshield.

I bought a complete Gerbing outfit about 3 years ago. I can ride for 3 hours at 20 degrees F. Haven't in awhile, but it worked great. I wear Muck boots with the Gerbing liners as well. The windshield will help as well. If you are doing short rides to work (under 50 miles), you can get by with hand warmers and save the thousand bucks for a Carpenter header
