Looks to be about a quarter to three quarters inch (6.3 mm to 19 mm) gap, which should provide adequate ventilation.
Unless you be a BIG FOOT and block the breeze!

Bruce, that's the pic I wanted to see. Given that my master cylinder is forward and up from that it looks like the pipe will be resting hard up against it. Going to explore a few options for moving it out a little or relocating. Any suggestions appreciated.

Don't know about your preferences and I realize yours is not a Roadster; but, on mine the stock location of that sucker already sticks outboard too far and interferes with my right boot when on the peg.

Was more the reservoir I was thinking than the whole cover too and haven't ruled out pushing the whole rail out a little. Any way, I have to get under and have a good look. Relocating the reservoir to somewhere completely out of the way also an option. Still haven't ruled out getting my own pipes made - have had some rough quotes and cost would be about the same but obviously a much bigger hassle.

I reckon they would fit the standard ok. Would not be any closer to the reservoir than the reband.
But someone with a standard needs to come to the party...
