I Need Help

If it's free why not. Ama is a great deal, been a member for years. Good luck with the repair.

If it's free then do it. I rode mine back from the West Coast with the detent spring broken once, but the first one that broke left the bike stuck in 1st gear - fortunately I was only 2 miles from home. You may be able to ride it there without problems, but then again. . .

Yes, it's a good idea and for exactly the reason you stated.

If it is the spring, as we suspect it is, make sure that they sweep the deep recesses of that part of the engine case with a good, strong magnet in order to ensure that they get all of the debris out!

I tried a magnet but had to take the sump off to get the broken piece out.

Now, dat's ugly, but it surely would have been uglier still had you not removed that shrapnel, kipper!

When I did the update kit, I inspected the old detent spring. It seemed sturdier than the new one. I swapped them, but seeing pictures of these broken ones scares me!!

I'd like to thank everyone who posted here with their opinions about what the problem with my R3T was. I'm happy to say that it WAS the detent spring and it has now been repaired and the bike is running like new.

You guys are a constant source of good and accurate information. When I went in to the shop - it sounded as if I knew what I was talking about and I'm certain that this helped avoid any "escalation" of my diagnosis and the charges.

THANKS to EVERYONE!

So you're now riding to RAA X in Marble Falls, AR in a couple weeks, RIGHT?
