Long Mountain Ride -NC into East Tennessee.
Highway 197 off I 26 North of Asheville to Bernardsville into Pisgah Natl. Forest, through Penscacola, Burnsville, Green Mountain, Red Hill, Relief, Poplar to the Tennessee line where it becomes 395 into Erwin. Hooters is just down 26 in Johnson City .

There is no decent restaurant In Erwin, Tn since I closed my BBQ joint there .

Ride the Rattlesnake Hwy. 209 into Hot Springs, NC. The Smoky Mountain Diner is good food and good folks. Outdoor covered dining.

Take 276 out of Waynesville (through downtown) and ride up to the top, cross under the BRP where it says welcome to Transylvania County, stay on 276 into Brevard. Looking Glass Falls will be on the left as you head down and it's next to the road with ample parking. In Brevard, turn right on 64 and stay on it a long way through Lake Toxaway, Sapphire, Cashiers and Highlands. On 64 out of Highlands will be Bridal Veil Falls on your right, you can drive behind them. In FRANKLIN,NC, get on 441 North toward Dillsboro. In Dillsboro you will connect with 74 and that will take you back to Waynesville. Just before Waynesville on 74, you can get on the BRP and ride it back to Soco Gap and drop into Maggie.
This is about an all day outing with lunch in Highlands.

WARNING !!!!!! Unless you just plain old like Fussing and Cussing and want to die in a low speed crash with a cager, STAY OUT OF GATLINBURG OR PIGEON FORGE, TN.

Now then, take Soco Road out of Maggie up to Soco Gap, get on the BRP (turn right, away from Asheville) and follow the BRP to its end (or beginning). Turn right on 441and cross into Tennessee. BEFORE you get into Gatlinburg, turn left into Fighting Creek Gap Road at the Sugarlands Visitor Center and stay on it until it changes to Little River Gorge Road. Turn right on Townsend Entrance Road, there is or was a Burger Master Drive In. Now, reverse course because none of our roads look the same coming back as they did going and go back to Maggie

GOOD advice! G-burg was bad enough 20 years ago. Cherokee is just as bad now that they built all the casino's there.
