Ok. Firstly, forgive me for my ignorance.
I've had a soft spot for the R3's since my first test ride a few years back but have only just in the past few weeks actually bought one.
Don't know if others ever thought this, but when Triumph first released the Rocket 3 I said "Who in their right right mind would want to ride a 2.3L motorbike. That's rediculous". Obviously I've seen the light.

To be honest, I wasn't planning on buying one just yet but everything just fell into place at the right time for me. I sold my Sprint RS. My wife was wanting to downsize from her Thunderbird Sport and it sold within 3 days of the ad going online and this bike came up around the same time, so I jumped on it.
Sad part of all that is that now I have a huge learning curb to undertake on a new type of bike in a reletively short period, hense the stupid questions.

It's a bit of a mystery to me as to what is and isn't really done to the bike but I'll tell you what I do know.

2007 Rocket standard in Cardinal Red.
Has got Jardine 3:1:2 pipes and Triple K&N filters.
Still has the secondaries fitted and for the moment I'm not in a rush to remove them either.
Will take me a little while to master the beast as it is, so not in a rush to prematurely remove the bridle if you know what I mean.

As I bought this bike from a non Triumph dealer I haven't been able to glean much information as to what else has been done in relation to the ECU.
They couldn't give me the contact details of the previuos owner so for all I know it's still running the stock program.

Problems I have noticed with the bike are a lot of backfiring on de-cel, won't idle by itself on cold start and on occasions is hard to start when hot.
Am going to pull the exhaust system apart and make sure there are no air leaks, but I think it's in the ECU myself.

Have got a VAG COM cable on order and hopefully here by the end of next week.

Have got a local fella who has a dyno but when I spoke with him he seemed a bit vague on these things so not in a rush to let him practice his learning of them at my $$ per hour expense just to find out he didn't get it right.

Can anyone tell me the best TuneECU to install from the info I've supplied??????????

Welcome from Ohio - not familiar with tuneecu tunes so I'll not touch that but congrats on acquiring the beast. The cardinal red paint scheme has been known to cause extensive periods of slow riding -- Black paint is smooth and fast !!

Welcome to the site. I have the decel popping and plan to get rid of it in the Spring with a new tune. I just have to serch for the tune.

If you want to use TuneECU, there are 2 custom tunes for jardines and triple filters. These are accessed at the bottom of the tuneecu tune page under custom tunes:

Power-Tripp Jardine 3xK&NRU-2780a.hex

This is for K&N filters and was done by Wayne Tripp so it should be good.

20050DynoFinalMap_WithPods_And_IgnRetard.hex

This was done by Wayne McDonald of Tuneboy in Oz. It is for triple Unifilters (pods).

I would try Tripp's first.

Actually, it wouldn't hurt to have your bike dyno tested to check out the power and air/fuel curves before messing with the tune. This should cost less than $50.

I currently run Jardines and a DynoJet PC-III. I know there are canned TuneECU tunes out there, but if your local guy is familiar with DynoJet, he should be able to tune your bike with no problem as long as you're running a DynoJet PC-III or PC-V.
While it helps to be familiar with the bike, he really only needs to be familiar with the mapping software he's using. Unfortunately, not many tuners out there are familiar with TuneECU or TuneBoy.
Running the 3 K&N's and Jardines should be putting you close to 150 HP if they fuel mapping is right..

By the way.. I had a T-Bird Sport for 5 years.. That was a GREAT bike.. My wife told me I should've kept it, and she was right.. :)

Welcome to the site. I'm sure you will find an answer to any
question you might have. I'm glad for you that you chose a
"Cardinal" red. There is another guy on here with a "Clarinet"
( Clariet) red, and his is VERY slow. Won't pass a turtle.
Oh, just pulling Hans chain. This is a great site with a lot
of good hearted people. Lots of talent. We also have belt
buckles, head wraps, rings and other jewelery. But thats
after you get her running right. Maybe start with a new
"Jet Black Paint Job"
Good luck and welcome aboard Captain.
