Drilling problems for Flipmeister stand

Scott has hit the nail on the head! Drilling in 1/32" increments is only .015" cut per side which puts a lot of force right on the cutting edge. I'd go 1/8" minimum and if necessary use the slow range on the drill. Any oil you have laying around, even used, is better than dry.

the way that hole looks i would go with the 1/2 if that is the size u want.
if that has the 1/4 all the way through it the 1/2 should work but don't mess up your wrist if it grabs.
hold drill firm and apply light pressure at first then if u need add more. because it is a larger drill (1/2) it should not break if u keep it straight.

And here I thought it would be better to go in small increments. OK, I'll just get at it with the 1/2" bit. Thanks for the tips!

Humm, I used the bit that came with my Flipmeister, and a 1/2" corded drill, no problem.

Finally got the chance to attack this again. Just went straight with the 1/2" bit like everyone recommended, used some WD-40 as lube, and had no problems... thanks for the good advice. Took about 20 min each side but it's done now. Flipmeister stand mounted beautifully and I'm now ready to attack the wheel removal (time to change the tire) and swap out the rear shocks tomorrow. The bike balances on the stand toward the front tire about 60/40 if I had to guess, but I positioned a jackstand under the exhaust pipe mount just in case. The original Metzler is now down to the threads at ~6,800 miles, got a new Bridgestone Exedra Max as its replacement, and I'll be trying out some Triumph Comfort shocks I bought used off another member here.

Yes, I used a 1/2" breaker bar with an extension, no cheater pipe required. Went up easier than I expected. There's a good instructional video (not mine) here:

Having just received my new Flipmeister Stand, that video was awesome!
