Darkside rubber

well,
i went and ordered up the 205/55-16 zeon 2xs this morning, along with with 4 other car tires for the cavalier. should be here this week.guess we'll see how it goes at lake mathis right after new ulm.:D

I believe I'd cancel that order. The 205 on the Rocket rim is going to broaden out at the side walls and lessen the benefit (debatable) of the "rounded" shoulder. The 205 is meant to mount on a narrower rim than that of the Rocket. The 225 is a marginal fit on the rim. I chose not to go with the 245 due to likely rub on the drive shaft. A 235 is not available.

Now, one of the riders on here has got to try a car front tire. The 245/50/16 I use on the back is good but there might be a car front tire to beat the Dunlop 404. The front bike tires are good for many miles but the look and ride of a car tire might be better. Next change I will try one!

gotta see the world, it will only take a minute

That Zeon looks sweet there Heretic, I went with the Toyo Proxes in 245/50VR16 and it rubs slightly on very hard bumps, when 2-up on stock springs. I weigh in at around 345 lbs yeah that a three and the wife is close to 200 lbs, thats my and hers naked weights, with gear and helmets we're 600 lbs for the pair of us. Me one up I never have any rubbing. The Toyo did fine on my recent trip to the Tail of the Dragon with the Yamaha Road Star Warriors boys and even garnered quite a few comments on the handling ability. I have a few pics of the tire when my wife and I mounted it and a few from Daryl Cannon aka Killboy from the Dragon.

I won't be going back to the Metz at more than twice the price, the Toyo costs me about $104 and should last at least 20,000 miles or more.

The supposedly "rounded" shoulder on the Zeon 2XS 225 appears no less rounded than your Toyo Proxes 4 in the 245.

I've now put on 200 miles on the darkside rubber and it has become second nature to apply the necessary additional counter steering. I believe I'll try out another design, in about 30k miles. The Eagle F1 doesn't have the straight center line rib of the Zeon 2XS. The straight tracking rib may be a factor on crowned roadways. It requires no additional input when in the bellies nor on top of the crown; but, transitioning across or riding along the rise and fall requires more input.

The darkside isn't for everyone but if you're up to it, you ride a lot, and are thrifty minded...there's little other choice. The fact is, I'm not entirely that thrifty but the hassles of changing a tire every eight months is a pain in the wallet and then there's the fretting and sweating; and I have been know to squeeze the moisture out of a rusted nail just so I can reuse it. :D

not to worry bro,
i'm just experimenting. i'll be looking for handling characteristics. i do have say that there is nothing wrong with a 225 configuration. i've ridden a 205 on a rocket in city and short highway bursts. it is a significantly easier tire to use. i am wondering how it'll do on fast sweepers at the lake. i know it doesn't grip as hard as the 225, so we'll see how it turns out. i find your views on the center rib to be interesting. that does seem to make sense.:D

I pumped 'er up to 42 PSI and got variable results. Most importantly, more agility. The rounded shoulders are apparently now working for me.

Not really a political statement, it was that way when I bought the bike and I soon discovered why. With the stock reflector it's the only way that it will fit :D. I guess my not fixing it is a statement in itself, either I'm too lazy to or I sub-conscientiously think that we as a country are in a state of distress, hmmm  maybe it is a political statement.
