Darkside Mounting Suggestions

NEVER SAW anything in the owners manual and thats the point BUT if you dont lube the splines they run dry and then wear and fail its been happening on some of the ROCKETS :(

So where does the 8k miles come from? Whose rockets had this failure?

So it is a confirmed fact that these failures were due to grease not being fresh enough on the splines? Again where does the 8K miles come from?

Dry splines

SEEMED they observed the dry conditon of the drive shaft splines as i remember and yes some had failed SO check yours how many miles on your bike and i guess you never checked it I had the drive on a shaft drive KAW KZ!1300 fail with the same dry nolube condition :(

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me that you made up especially since you try to find every reason to try to scare people away from mounting car tires. It is common to put grease on the splines so they don't rust together and to make taking your wheel off easier but why else would they need lubed? They are not intermeshing gears, once they are together they are together. You are telling people to go to their dealers and spend more money on a possible problem that you are not backing up with any facts.

My back wheel was off about 6k ago to mount my Riken Raptor and there was pleny of grease on everything since it takes years or extremely harsh conditions for it to dry out.

Nope,
it's NOT B.S.,
they DO indeed need lubed occasionally.
I figure about every 10,000 miles wouldn't hurt.
It's easy enough to take the rear wheel off and do it.
I recommend the Honda moly 60,
its kinda expensive,
but alot cheaper than a new rear end.
Pull your rearend off and check the splines yourself,
maybe yours don't need lubed.
Mine did.
But then,
maybe I just ride more aggressivly than some do.
JM2CW,
skip

As far as the original question on tire mounting goes.
I took the old tire still mounted and the new tire to a
independent small time operation tire dealer.
He removed the old and mounted the new for $20.00.
Did say he'd never seen one just like that, but had no trouble,
either dismounting or remounting.
30 minutes later I was on the road again.

HEY MR MEAN WE ARENT talking about CTS IF you think its BS then dont lube yours its your loss DONT care what you do :) and i dont have to back anything up SO since your smarter than us DONT GREASE YOURS :D

I can't stand it anymore .... I've never heard of any failures, it's not in the manual, it's common sense that if you have no lube and rusty splines you put grease on it!
Why would you either wipe off spline grease just to reapply or add more just because?
No one I know crosses streams or rides in desert sand .....
and if I can get 15k+ miles from a car tire, I'm not planning to pull the rear wheel to spread grease just 'cause ya said so.
8,000 miles is made up BS and Chuck is right on the money.
