After hitting the 100k mile mark last May I parked the Rocket in the garage, removed the intake system, the plugs, the fuel tank, and drained the oil. It just sat there all summer waiting for a valve check and adjust while I made several moto camping trips up to Washington and Oregon on my v strom. Finally I got back to the Rocket a few days ago. I chickened out of doing the valve adjustment myself figuring there was just too much I could eff up, so I just installed new plugs, a new fuel filter, new oil and filter, and a new ramair filter.

The bike is running better than it ever has even though I have not done a 12 minute tune yet or retuned with TuneECU. I am really impressed with the ramair, especially the growl you get when you hammer on the throttle. I was concerned that I would not like the noise after hearing so many complaints about the triple filters but dang it sounds great!. And getting rid of that ridiculous stock intake system was a long time coming.

I still have not installed the crankcase breather filter. Is this really necessary?

Also, is there a specific tune that works best with the ramair and stock exhaust and catbox? It seems to run great without any retuning though.

Unless you want fumes/sludge in the old air box install the breather filter.
Best to get it tuned or a tune from @Hans0 as it will probably be running lean now

I shoved a foam wad into the hole in the bottom of the air box.
I take it out and clean it with the triple K&Ns.
This has worked with NO mess to the tools and stuff inside for several years.

Offered as a follow up -
My cannister is removed, the Stebel installed and the PDM60 re-programmed.
WITH LOTS OF HELP FROM @DEcosse!!!

**** this bike is fun. Not riding the Rocket for four months made me forget how much fun it is. That plus the bike had been steadily losing power over the years because I did not change out the fuel filter until after 100k. The thing is, even with that loss of power the Rocket still had plenty of it so it was not that noticeable until I put the new fuel filter in, plus new plugs and the ramair. It is more fun now than when I bought it nearly 11 years ago. And that ramair growl was all the improvement in sound that I was looking for, I don't want a loud bike, I just want one that sounds pleasing to me, even on a long ride. That was an unexpected perk.

I hooked up TuneECU and reset the adaptives, plus checked the TPS voltage which was just fine. Bike is running great and idleing perfectly. I can't keep my hands off it. Sorry v strom, it is your turn to sit on your ass for a while, the Rocket is back and pissed off!

I am building a baffled oil catch can that fits up on top of the air box in front right under the tank where the old plumbing used to be. This will separate gunk from the blow by before it goes to the breather filter. I watched a lot of videos on You tube and you would not believe the sludge one will catch and stop form going back into the motor (for you guys who routed to hos to one of your throttle bodies. @Rocket Scientist , and @Wrecka . I watched one guy run his for 14000 Kilometers and got about a shot glass or so full of oily sludge. I am sure their is some fuel wash in there also. Anyway you might not think it funking anything up in the intake or not sending the gooey garbage back into the cylinder but you would be wrong.
pretty cheap its costing me just under 15 bucks. The great thing is the area it sits in is just empty area (if you eliminated the air ducting) you will not even see it.

OK Scott I need some pictures of everything :D
@skydog1000 So far but hey I just started today and I am retired :)

Not sure if it will take any more or even as much as I uploaded. If not I will add on the next post when I am done I will probably paint it black eve though you really won't see it once the tank is down.

OK I still have to add the air breather barb for the filter which will be up front somewhere out of the way but easy to take a look see at it.

Ok so these are again with the tank down you can see it but once I blot back on the plastic infill panel it will be hidden well. I like the added improvement cheap but most important is not something else hanging out for everyone to see. Just using space that has been empty and wasted on both my bikes for years.
