2012 Triumph Rocket Roadster
I just purchased my 2012 Roadster and I want to flush the coolant. Naturally my very first purchase after the bike was the mechanic manual and in it I read that we are supposed to be using HD4X HOAT coolant which is an ethylene glycol coolant. I called Engle's Triumph here in Kansas City to ask about this and to my surprise was informed that they use some kind of BMW coolant for their Triumphs...a blue coolant that doesn't have the same properties. I was pretty confused by this especially from a dealer AND especially the less-than-loving relationship Triumph feels towards the German maker...

So now I am looking to buy the HD4X and it is turning into a bugger to find this. I am throwing this up here to see what are you guys doing about your coolant and if some of you are using the HD4X, then where are you buying it at? Thanks for the help!

After a lot of research, I went with engine ice Engine Ice High Performance Coolant it's blue.

I flushed out the old with distilled water and white vinegar, then flushed it with just distilled water. It's an easy enough job that I'll be doing it every year.

Get two half gallon bottles and it will take a bottle and a half to fill or 3/4 of a gallon.

Zerex G-05 Pre-Diluted is what I've been using over a year w/o problems. I settled on it after a lot of reading on this list and elsewhere.

Just a follow-up to what I have started in the event anyone cares. I contacted Baxter's cycles and they hooked me up. When in doubt...Baxter's is the source!:D

I had the triumph coolant in my bike before the rebuild and when I got my bike bike it had green coolant in it which is an IAT coolant good for two years. Coolanol from maxima is an IAT green coolant specially for motorcycles and of good chemistry. After having a hose leak I bought the coolanol to top it up with. I think I'll be staying with coolanol when I change out the coolant next month mainly because of its availability as well as being a good product. The triumph stuff is good also but I fear having a leak on a long trip far from home. It's hard enough to find a triumph dealer let alone one that has the triumph coolant on their shelf. And you can't mix an IAT. and an OAT coolant. Some of the guys are using the red Honda stuff with good results and you can find a Honda dealer anywhere.
