I would suspect the radiator cap is not holding pressure? This would make the coolant boil at a lower temp and burp out. Also check the hose from the radiator to the coolant over flow my original one did not last long and no matter how much I filled the tank it dripped.

Right above the thermosta housing is a chrome bolt with copper gasket it is for bleeding air out of the system which gets trapped in the head.

I've tried to bleed air twice so far during coolant changes; from that chromed bolt above the thermostat. All that come out for me is coolant.

How much air is supposedly trapped up there in the head?

The air comes out first, once it spills coolant, it's full.......................

The other thing that helps, when filling the radiator itself, hold the bike upright - or even leaning a little to the right ... CAREFULLY!!! If you fill the radiator on the sidestand, half of the top radiator tank is air.

Well chit.... hadn't thought about that. I'm WFH today... so am going out RIGHT NOW and correcting that. Thanks Ruzzle....

On my 06 the casting plug shifted when they poored the head so the bolts there but no slot going into the coolant Jacket. I always lean mine over to the right when filling and hold her upright to check the level. I never put coolant in the overflow and never get coolant pushed into the overflow even when thrashing the beast hard. Of course I turn my fan on earlier then the normal settings. Cooler engine develops more power.

Hi guys,

Have just bought a R3, brand new with 1250kms on it. Today noticed a puddle underneath my bike after riding it. Weather is quite warm but not hot. Took it home straight away and got the same with a coolant spilling out the overflow tube at bottom of bike. Coolant level in radiator was full and level in tank at the low line, was like this from new. Due to replace the oil now. Anyone experienced the same and any suggestions, is this norm. Hoping engine will run cooler once i replace the oil.

Thanks

Woody

Its not unusual for them to overflow after they have been filled. It might have just been warm enough for that too happen.
New engines will run hotter until they looosen up

if brand new, discuss with dealer.
If 1200 miles, then the baby burp should have passed a while ago.
Replay the route, and see if it's ok. Probably residual if only a few ounces.
If cap fails, dealer should replace
