Briefly Lost Electrical While Riding

Hello All,

New owner, Stock 2017 R3 Roadster, ~130 miles on bike so far, a few short trips around town so far.

I was accelerating onto interstate entrance ramp in second gear when I lost all electrical. I pulled in clutch, hit starter, nothing, flipped kill switch a couple time, nothing, was coasting to a stop and electrical came back on. I noticed my gauges light up and saw the indicators cycle zero-max-zero like it does when you first turn on the key. I hit the starter and she fired back up, was still rolling so continued on my way without any further issue. The whole incident lasted maybe 3-5 seconds.

I know it wasn't the kickstand or kill switch because the gauges would still have been lit up which they were not. I search around for a bit but didn't find anything similar to rolling electrical outage. I don't think I lost battery connection because the time display was still correct, not sure if there is a micro battery that keeps clock running.

Any guidance is appreciated.

It sounds like battery terminals in spite of the clock maintaining its setting

Yep, similar thing happened to me, when I had not cinched the battery well after service. Only I didn't get to a rolling start, I had to take the seat off on the side of the road and tighten it up! Saddlebags are man's be friend....great for tools!

Finally another with the same gremlin!
My 2012 R3R has done this 4 or 5 times while out on the road cruising in 5th gear over the past 50K miles. Has done it before the keyless and sfter. So far it's always corrected after stopping to a stop and several re-trys with kill switch and starter.

Ive had something similar on at least 5 occasions where the bike will pop through the throttle bodies , stall and then when i try to restart by hitting the starter it'll blank out the guages and the fuel gauge will reset to zero fuel. I have to turn the key off for a few seconds and go through restart procedure

My issues have persisted through 4 different batteries and frequently cleaned terminals.

I had a similar problem with the Harley. Replaced the ground and hot wires to battery and problem disappeared. Hot wire was corroded slightly. Went back in with slightly larger size on both.
