Attention ALL Electrical Guru's

Please you have the problem resolved and validated as to the origin
I would be interested to take a look at the failed unit if you are up for that?
@DEcosse I would be interested in your opinion as to whether a speed or street triple speedo/tach could be addapted to the Rocket. I am not sure if the Daytona's ever had separate gauges from the fairing. I see a few speed four units for about 250 bucks And it looks like it has everything idiot light wise like the rocket just all in one unit and a higher rpm tachometer.

Street, definitely not, nor Speed Triple from 05+ - those are CANBUS gauges

However you could fit Speed Triple or Daytona 955 from 02-04 (->06 for the Daytona)

Don't know if that would appeal however

The 00-04 Sprint ST gauges would also work - and you could remove the speedo and tach as stand-alone and fit in pods
(I can give you the wiring info on what to connect to where)

Note that the 'idiot' Lights are not part of the gauges themselves so you would require LEDs or similar (don't think you want the strip from the console)

This Ebay listing is just the speedo - has a bunch of views so you can see what it looks like out of the console

(the listing is in error - it says 99-10, however is 99-04 - the 05-10 are CANBUS)

So I finally got my new Speedo installed. Once I knew it was on its way, I decided to disassemble the old one and check the internals to see if maybe a capacitor had blown or there was any other obvious issue with the electronics that I may have wanted to try to fix myself. The unit is sealed. I had to pry off the chrome bezel to get to the internals. Nothing was obviously wrong with the internals. I could hear the motor that drives the needle run once I turned the key, but no needle movement (sweep) no matter what I did to it the needle. I suspect that a broken gear in the motor may be the issue.

Interestingly, my new unit shows "0" miles. The way I understood it was that the speedo get the mileage from the ECU. The dealer understood that to be the case too. After 2 hours of dealing directly with Triumph, the dealer said that Triumph did not have a suggested way to set the mileage on my bike. So....I now have a 2005 TR3 with 67 miles on it!

Some pics for the curious.

The mileage is recorded in the speedo. You should keep a record of the mileage that was on it so that when you sell the bike the government records don't get messed up. I don't know about there, but in MD there is a sopt on the title to declare if the mileage is not correct, and what the correct mileage should be.

Here in NY its the same, i kept the old speedo just in case i wrote the mileage and took pics as well, however if the vehicle its over 10 years old the mileage its not needed.

Yea, I have recorded the the mileage from the old speedo and the service center confirmed that they have the mileage recorded as well. I recall seeing other posts where people said that the mileage is actually recorded in the ECU and sent to the new speedo from the ECU. Has anyone here had the correct mileage show up after replacing their speedo?

Those posts that you have seen are in error - categorically, the mileage is stored in the instruments in non-volatile memory (needs no power to maintain that stored data)

Thanks for straightening that up. Even the dealer said that the mileage should come from the ECU.
