I can be the first one to say first hand that I have owned three turbo busas, several big bore 1397 and 1420 busas...went deep in the 8's and over 230 mph when top ending the bike on a private road

. As one grows up/older your interests change. Ten-fifteen years ago I would have laughed had some one told me that I would have owned several Harley V twins...i mean come on..talk about functionally obsolete... or how about a big dog...it corners like a fat lady trying to walk at slow speed due to the 39 degree rake...this is as absurd as if ford still was making the pinto but put disc brakes on it to modernize the car..this is a realistic analogy. At least my victory is an overhead cam 4 valve motor making more then 1hp for each cube.
The point is sport bikes are just that made for speed and when your interests lay in the biggest baddest, highest horsepower, 200+ top end rush...then adding power, a big bore, a turbo makes you president (at least in your mind) of the BSD club...that's big swinging dick.
As time passes at least for many and I speak for myself...you know despite being in great shape...it still hurts my wrists leaning forward at around town speeds, it does begin to hurt my legs being high and tucked under as dedicated sport bikes are...I still love my zx14...but its set up for sport touring...not drag racing.
So to make a short story long...why spend money taking a 800 lbs pig and seeing if it can fly? Because its for the same reason people climb mountains...what a waste of a walk...I mean you go up and then come back down...the net sum is zero...Tell that to a climber who yearns to push himself an stare death in the face as he summits K2.
Its not about top ending a turbo rocket...although Bonneville land speed week 2013 is only 11 months away and going over 200 would set a record in its class...actually destroy it...
Its about the massive torque, earth turning force..roll on and leave all but a turbo busa in the dust. Its the BSD club for those who dont want to spend their saddle time hunched over lifting their head to see over the triple tree.
Just my .02
