I was wondering the same. Over 200 foot lbs of torque seems to be a waste on this machine.

Ponters is that 274 NM or ftlbs?
Just curious as 274 nm = 202 ftlbs
Which both are pretty good for mild torque :D
I on the other hand like to rip the pavement out from under the bike except when in flight! Then I just hold on a wait for the bike to hit the asphault. Broke two sets of fog light brackets already. It would seem they do not hold up to excessive power and speed.

Fog lights would seem somewhat redundant on these machines - unless you're completely insane. Oh, I see. ;)

Question

I just have to ask the question. Really!!?? Really!!?? Why go and spend all of that money on a bike built for something else when you could have started with a Busa, or a ZX14, or a bike built to handle the speed this type of power will produce? I want to see you ride a Rocket at 200MPH in front of me or on a verifiable video. Come on really? The bike does NOT have the aerodynamics or stability for those speeds!

I am a HP addict, but wow! What's the bike worth now? $8,000.00 maybe if you can find someone who wants it?

I can be the first one to say first hand that I have owned three turbo busas, several big bore 1397 and 1420 busas...went deep in the 8's and over 230 mph when top ending the bike on a private road;) . As one grows up/older your interests change. Ten-fifteen years ago I would have laughed had some one told me that I would have owned several Harley V twins...i mean come on..talk about functionally obsolete... or how about a big dog...it corners like a fat lady trying to walk at slow speed due to the 39 degree rake...this is as absurd as if ford still was making the pinto but put disc brakes on it to modernize the car..this is a realistic analogy. At least my victory is an overhead cam 4 valve motor making more then 1hp for each cube.

The point is sport bikes are just that made for speed and when your interests lay in the biggest baddest, highest horsepower, 200+ top end rush...then adding power, a big bore, a turbo makes you president (at least in your mind) of the BSD club...that's big swinging dick.

As time passes at least for many and I speak for myself...you know despite being in great shape...it still hurts my wrists leaning forward at around town speeds, it does begin to hurt my legs being high and tucked under as dedicated sport bikes are...I still love my zx14...but its set up for sport touring...not drag racing.

So to make a short story long...why spend money taking a 800 lbs pig and seeing if it can fly? Because its for the same reason people climb mountains...what a waste of a walk...I mean you go up and then come back down...the net sum is zero...Tell that to a climber who yearns to push himself an stare death in the face as he summits K2.

Its not about top ending a turbo rocket...although Bonneville land speed week 2013 is only 11 months away and going over 200 would set a record in its class...actually destroy it...

Its about the massive torque, earth turning force..roll on and leave all but a turbo busa in the dust. Its the BSD club for those who dont want to spend their saddle time hunched over lifting their head to see over the triple tree.

Okay. I can understand that. I see guys all the time put big bucks into a Harley. I guess I just bought my bike for a different reason. I bought my 05 ZX12R new in 05 and with just a muffler it was a handfull. I took it to 175MPH on a pre road road and that was fast enough and bad enough for me.

My Rocket is a touring bike, as I do a lot of road trips, not stop light to stop light racing. I want NO problems out on the road and just want a good running Rocket. I can spank any touring Harley I've come up against and that's good enough for me.:D

175 may have seemed fast to you because you did it once or twice...had you been a regular 2-3x at the drag strip and had the bike set up with dog bones, front strap and maybe an air shifter...high 9's to low 10s would be a regular event...then running 142-143 would seem rather slow...start to bust open up the wallet and install a big bore kit, cnc the heads...and now run low 9's at over 150-152 and in time that would seem slow. Put on a turbo, a lock up and now your running over 160 and in time that will seem slow...so what is next to satisfy the speed craving...either a dedicated track bike running in the low 8's to high 7s...call Star Racing...and bust out some cash for them to build you the bike...btw thats slow to them

or

sell it and try something new...

your military judging from your pic...so let me ask you how many friends do you know that own a Smith & Wesson 500...I mean do you really need a handgun that is more powerful than a 30-06?

What about those who own a Barret 50 and have maybe put 20-30 rounds down range the entire time they ow it...maybe if they are lucky a 300 yard range...thats as silly as a 300lbs professional football play going against a group of kids in high school...its not even a competition...ok maybe not the best comparison..but you get the idea...

if some is good then more is better..

Is too much never enough?

I made the comment about torque, because, to me, after a certain point, or in this case, a certain amount, it would seem that extra torque is, for all practical purposes, unusable. Please educate me, if that doesn't make sense!

No I hear ya. I used to down shift to second to about 30 MPH and do rolling take offs. The thing would carry the front wheel about six inches off the road through fourth gear with me laying down on the tank! It was fun, but I sold it, as I knew I would end up in the hospital or the Morgue!

No that's my 6'05" son. I'm the short 6' old guy next to him with the Harley shirt. He gets the height from his mother side. At first when he kept growing I thought the "Mailman" got in! :D

And Phill, at some point I think a guy would have to go to a small auto slick to launch the thing!! Did I see one guy is up in the 400HP range???? Insane. How could you launch the bike??????????
