I picked my rocket up two days ago and have only put 100 miles on here but my gearbox is exactly the same. I have found that a blip of the throttle helps on downshifts.....I have tried the double clutch to go into first and that helps.
That's a good habit to get into.

Smooth, clunk-less shifting is all about matching gear speeds to engine speeds. And drive shaft final drives only add to the fun. My BMW K12 likes a lightning quick tug on the changer with a touch of pre-load on the lever just prior. My R3 simply likes them firm and followed through. The first few miles with either serves as a 'refresher' for the particular finesse needed;but matching engine/gear speed is primary.

My r3t doesn't mind clutchless up shifting at all, if at a sensible speed. Downshifting however, it prefers I use the clutch rather than hunting for a proper road speed. crunch crunch crunch!
