2015 / 2016 Rocket III recall

:eek:Oh Dear I thought I would use that Vin check link and so I just did put my Vin in the website and Oh Noooo :( I have a outstanding recall on a possibly faulty Side Stand bolt rang Triumph Australia to confirm it, it appears the Qld dealer (no longer a Triumph dealer) that sold the bike to the previous owner had ignored it and that I should contact my nearest dealer to organise it at no cost to me, So I rang Nowra Triumph Whom I bought my Rocket off and told them, the lovely Helen said she would have to check to make sure the part is available (in stock) ..... rang me back ten minutes later and said "parts on its way when do you want to come in" so next week Tuesday Ann and I are going up to Nowra to get it done, can't complain about the service from Nowra Motor Cycles, Nowra NSW :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Also A Big Thank You to @TheWhingnut for putting up this thread you have possibly saved me from having the sidestand failing on me

That is just for the US and Canada VIN numbers which have a check digit and a couple of other codes or versions of codes not used elsewhere.

UK, Europe use a different but the same system and Australia slightly different but very similar to UK/Europe system.

Which may explain @Tal 's issue.

put my vin in there and goes "confirm bike"...wtf?

As covered elsewhere:

the 10th # being the model year so the bike is 2005 and more the likely it is a standard.

Not in UK/Europe and Australia where the 11th digit is the model year code. USA/Canada use different standard VIN codes where 10th digit is model year code (the code is same for both though). USA/Canada also use a check digit code which the rest of the world does not.

This always becomes a major source of confusion due to different VIN code standards worldwide.

UK/Europe and Australia does not use USA check digit at all so coding is quite different except last 6 digits and SMT at start is UK (SM) manufacturer Triumph (T).

The fourth to ninth positions in the VIN are the vehicle descriptor section or VDS. This is used, according to local regulations, to identify the vehicle type, and may include information on the automobile platform used, the model, and the body style. Each manufacturer has a unique system for using this field.
I reckon the 6th character 'C' is Rocket
US/Canada and Australia 6th, 7th, 8th code characters are the model type and fairly sure the 9th digit '3' is the number of engine cylinders while 10th digit '5' is probably shaft drive.

Vehicle identifier section (VIS)
The 10th to 17th positions are used as the 'vehicle identifier section' (VIS). This is used by the manufacturer to identify the individual vehicle in question. USA/Canada 10th is year, UK/Europe 11th is year. For Triumph motorcycles 12th-17th is a sequential 6 digit number.

Your 11th character, the digit 6, is 2006 model year in UK / Europe ISO Standard 3779 system used in Europe and many other parts of the world. Mine is A for 2010.

Date year code is the 10th character for USA / Canada FMVSS 115, Part 565 system.

This character can be either a digit or an Alpha character
