Just got the bike and just filled it for the 1st time. It has 2150 miles on it. The fuel light came on and I stopped and filled it up. Is it normal to put in 4.3 gallons directly after the light comes on? I figured it would take another gallon.

Yes. It should be somewhere around there to 4.5 gallons. That will leave you just short of 2 gallons to get to a petrol station.

How did you find a 2005 with only 2150 miles on it? Does it have a new speedometer? ;)

Thanks for the quick reply. These are the original miles. The previous owner has 3 rockets and this one was the bike that he modded but didn't ride. I heard he also has a gold wing. This bike has the tribal paint job which I was told at the dealer that a new tank, side panels and fenders had to be purchased with this paint. The bike is pristine. Lots of chrome, air horns extra lights.

I purchased my 2005 R3 in November last year. It had 1274 miles on the odometer. I later learned the speedometer could be changed and started at zero again. The dealer is reputable and had no reason to lie since I didn't care about mileage. They also signed an odometer statement and the title verifying the mileage was original, also the bike looked brand new. The dealer told me they filled the tank for me since I had a 300 mile trip to get my new ride home. About ninety miles into the trip the low fuel light came on. My first thought was Those Lying SOBs. I stopped to fuel up and it only took about 3.5 gals. Now I just ride till my butt starts to ache then stop for gas. I was more concerned with gas mileage, my worse was 27mpg best was 32mpg. I've read some saying they get 38-40+. They must weigh 100 lbs and ride like old an lady driving a Buick station wagon:)

My thoughts exactly. I usually get closer to 28 than 32 in town. I need to go on a good road trip and see how it does cruising.

OP, very nice bike, I like the paint.

Tribal paint was offered I think in 2005 and 2006. My fuel light has come on at 4.2 gals used since day 1 new. Thought about bending the float rod several times but what the heck. 2 gal reserve is nice. I regularly get 35 to 45 mpg.
