10,000 mile tune up

I've never had any repair work done on a motorcycle so I can't answer that for ya'. I've heard good things about Life Cycle. I've been in Fox a few times for parts. Nice bunch of people. Haven't heard anything good or bad about the work they do.

Okay...one more question. How long does it take you to do your valve check start to finish if you don't have to swap out any shims? Do you have your bike modified like no air box to remove? Just trying to get a feeling for shop time they might be charging for.

I have K&N's so no air box to deal with. If I got right after it I could probably do it in 1.5 hours. Add at least another hour if it still has the air box.

Thanks for your previous mate post and advice ,I will probably check the clearances again at 48000Ks I have been trying to convince myself that it doesn't need it but have always been a stickler for Maintenance on my vehicles, anyhow it only takes me about 3hours with my Banana sized fingers to do the job with OEM airbox in place.

Hello. Just checked out valve clearance today. Replaced every seal and washer. The reason we did not reuse the original hard wear is because of past experience of doing valve clearance checks on a 05 Bonneville, Nothing worse than getting everything back together only to find out a sealed washer is leaking. The clearance on the valves was fine well within tolerance. Really did not expect to find a loose one but was concern about maybe finding a couple to tight. Rocket Scientist is dead on about tight valves. The Rocket X is stock and being my first time it took about five hours of work. We replaced the cheap connectors to the coils and A few other connectors that seemed really cheaply made. I am a nut about oil leaks and bad connections so we may go a little overboard at times. I really do not believe a dealership would spend that much time or effort doing a valve check, hell they could not afford to spend that much time. In the morning we plan on lubing the throttle cables and clutch cable. Adjusting everything after lubing should be entertaining. Then on to removing the tires. Need to get the tires to dealership by noon. Still have a lot to do but the first day went great.

Got the tires off but by the time we were ready to go the place we were taking the rims and tires to it was closed. To cold to ride this week anyways. The splines were dry on the shaft. Plan on using Loctite 8012. Anybody else ever use this stuff?

Uh, yeah, Sonny. That Loctite is a bit of overkill for a secure wheel-tire seating, don't ya' think?!

You're gittin' it done for the Winter layover, son.;)

Phil, he is talking about a moly based grease for the splines on the shaft drive I belive.

Yes we are talking about the shaft drive. ever use the loctite 8012? Not a winter lay over just maintenance. First time on a Rocket.
