05 Rocket Wont Start Issues after Storage

I have trouble with cold starting but you seem to have much bigger problem so this may not work for you, however my mechanic cousin solved it for me. The fuel pressure can drop off over long periods of none running, so he advised turning on the ignition for about 10 sec. before hitting the start button, this gives time for the pump to build up pressure. cranking it over will only make the problem worse by trying to inject fuel & therefore releasing pressure making it harder to build up pressure. It worked for me & costs nothing to try. Good luck anyway

That's why you want to test the pump. If you can't get it to squirt into a bottle, it won't squirt into the injectors either. You can pull the headlight fuse (if you don't have the EB cut-out option, (useful mod BTW)) and let it sit for about 30 seconds ignition on. If the pump is vapor bound it'll clear eventually. If the pump is OOC it won't build pressure at all. The problem could be as simple as the fuel filter being clogged, or the pressure regulator being gummed up. If you let gas go bad in the tank the problem starts in your tank. Your best bet is to remove the fuel pump assembly and start looking for the problem if it won't squirt gas.

fuel pump ?

Ok, so ... checked all connections, fuses, relays....all seem good.
Lifted tank, and removed fuel line from rail and hung it in a gas can, a tiny amount of fuel (thimble full) dribbled out. So, put key in turned ignition on, everything cycles as it should (low fuel STILL on), cranks over nicely, but still wont fire and of course no fuel runs out of fuel line...

Is complete fuel pump replacement needed ? Any thing i'm missing ??

thanks, damon

from what I read of what you are saying, when you turned on ign there should have fuel pissing out of line so it might be as Atom suggested a blockage or Air lock in pump if you leave the line disconnected and with ignition does only pump for a short tim if so the pump and or fuel line is probally blocked I take it you did actually hear the pump when you turned ign on
Also I am asuming you have got rid of old fuel in tank and filled it up again to cover the fuel pump pick up

pump up the jam

To be honest it don't think i hear a **** thing from the pump, been a long while since i heard the sound, so cannot be sure. But i really don't think the pump is priming, engaging or any other action. Added a brand new gallon of gas and seafoam

check connections to pump otherwise it sounds like she (the Pump) may have droped her guts or is jamed solid with hit but check the electrical connection first

Update

So, pulled tank and fuel pump assembly... imfg !!! thegas that came out (5 gals) was dark brown smelt sickly sweet and inside of tank and fuel pump assembly rusted and nasty as hell, will post pics, soon. End of the fuel pump before tea bag strainer there was dark brown gooey substance looked and felt like soft putty.. any ideas ?

Ppretty sure need new fuel pump, but what about the low gas float unit seemed to have lost its small connections to its arm, filter seemed to check out.Regulator, electrics... etc Is there a way to bench test all other parts out of bike ? Or just replace pump first and see if that will do the trick ?

Sounds like at some time you picked up some fuel from a gas station running from the storage tank bottom pulling sludge.. or you filled from an old rusty gas can maybe ? You will need to get the Tank thoroughly cleaned and de rusted other wise you will forever get the same trouble, new pump/float assembly recommended I think ... sorry :(

Note... I was alway told.. always keep the tank full when not using the bike..

Was the rubber buffer ring still on the pickup or did that melt into the gooey substance ?

My bike was stored for one year also

Sorry to hear all your trouble but seems to be an electrical issue for me.... My bike.was stored for.one.year and send down from US to Argentina , I receive it yesterday , I Was scared about all this, but first open the gas tank and there wasn t any bad smell from inside, so decided to put high grade gas on my tank, second I replace.battery because the one installed was dead, even with slow charge I wasn t able to reach 10 volts at a 20 hours charge cycle , so decided to buy new one , plug it in , turn.the switch on, pull the clucht lever twice and still and yahoooooo bike start without any problem! Just amazing
