I tried the Laminar Lip and found that it was useless.
When I originally test rode the RIII it was a Standard model with the Summer Screen. It work brilliantly and gave me a nice air pocket to ride it. I purchased an RIII Classic, which has pulled back bars for a more relaxed ding position. (Don't you love the marketing talk they use?) As soon as I got on the interstate my head was buffeting to knock my brains out - what little I have left. So I went back and they swapped it for the larger Touring Screen. That worked a lot better, but still not right. I put the Triumph Lowers on and they improved things, but still not perfect.
I then swapped my mirrors for some off a Yamaha cruiser (I still wonder if he ever noticed.
) These are sort of shaped like Harley mirrors. Strangely enough, they reduced a lot of the remaining buffeting. A Clearview screen was next for long trips. They are good screens, but a little too large for local riding - for me anyway. However, very good for 600+ mile days on the Interstate. As it didn't have a vent I decided to make one. It worked very well. If you get a Clearview screen then make sure that you get a vented one, and the re-curve.
As the vent worked well, I decided to try it on my Triumph Touring screen. (This is the screen with 5 bolts on the horizontal mounting bracket - the summer screen has 3.) I drilled two holes 1.5" diameter (from memory) about 6 or 7 inches apart, centered, and just a bit above the horizontal mounting bracket. I then joined the holes using a jig saw, filed it smooth with a bastard file, and then smoothed it all down with successively finer wet&dry paper.
I now ride with this modded screen and no lowers. For me it has been the best solution by far, and is a very easy mod to do. Just remember measure once and cut twice. - or is that the other way round?
