Wheel bearings

2005 Rocket III Std & 2012 R3R with 240 Carp. kit
About to put new tires on. The bike has 38k miles and the bearings have never been touched. How long will they last and who offers a good replacement? Or just get OEM?

Ive replaced rear bearings at about 35k unneccesarily. It turns out Id previously torqued too much. The best (cheapest) source I found was Georgia Motorcycle ATV Dealer - Freewheeling Honda, Bombardier, Sea Doo, Suzuki, Triumph, Polini. Scooters, Parts, Accessories .
Im retaining the replaced set for the 100k swap out. I might add, it takes a special tool to do a swap out.

How to determine if the bearings need replacing:

1. Do they move freely without a gritty feel
2. Do they wobble
3. Do they have a grease fitting
4. Do they point South :kk:

Ill wager, someone will be along shortly to correct me
 
Will not real sure about the triumph bearings but more than likely there just like the ones that was in my Suzuki 1500 which I replaced and found out that they were the same bearings that were in General Motors alternators consider the RPMs they turn unless some type of damage they should last a very very long time PS. I have found if i need a bearing i go to a supply house that specializes in bearings and give them the number and they will match you up but do not tell them it is for a motorcycle they do not like to sell bearings for motorcycles some type of insurance thing
 
worn wheel bearings

Had my rocket serviced today at moto arena on the gold coast
$100 cheaper than team moto springwood i might add.
But anyway long story short i told the tech i had a loose feeling in the front end and could he check the head stock bearing anyway he told me it was very loose and he tightend it up so i rode it home and the loose feeling is definitely gone now which is great but i have noticed at very low speed like carparks or just around the suburb streets it almost feels like the front wheel is out of balance like it has a slight wobble from left to right as the wheel rotates .
do you guys think its just a case of a wheel balance or could it need new wheel bearings ?
the bike is a 09 standard and has just done 30,000 killometers
 
I've had both the steering head bearings replaced ( found they were flogged when bike was repaired after the crash) and front wheel bearings replaced because of rust. Mitch i'd get them checked just to be sure. Admittedly i'd riden daily in the rain up in Darwin but they were pretty rusty.
 

I did crash mine xmas of 09 Just rang moto arena and they said to bring it down when i get a chance over the next week so the tech can have a look and a ride but they suspect i might need new headstock bearings **** it i really need to get a more practical commuting bike and leave this thing for fun.
 
Bloke i know has got a beautiful (and i mean beautiful) 2003 Thunderbird 900 for sale. Reckons he wants $8k for it ... wants to buy a ... yep.. you guessed it a Harley , just to be different

Unfortunately i dont have $8k ill have to borrow money for the second bike i spent all my money buying the rocket

Really (really) hard to fathom why he wouldn't be looking at a new T'Bird and keeping the old one. Cost would be about the same and he'd have an infinitley better ride(s). It's a no brainer, surely!
 

If your steering head bearings are to tight you will find it hard to ride in a straight line when going slow. You will have to keep correcting as the front end geometry that is designed to run straight can be over ruled by tight bearings or a worn roller in your bearings. This sounds like your problem.
