Hey guys. I want to test the waters in redesigning a new front headlight for the rocket.

Full tilt - get a donor ballast or LED driver from another DOT compliant assembly, make, print, extrude some prototypes and try to go high volume. Easier said than done but you get the point.

What are your thoughts on the OEM dual headlight? I think they're a statement piece (absolutely ugly), and there are other beautiful details of the bike that can be accentuated with a better assembly.

I am happy with it on the RIII and my R3GT. I like the fact that both lights burn for the low beam and high beam. My Tiger 900 GT only burns the right light for low beam and the left light for high beam. Im ok on the Tiger high beam, but for me I think both low beams should always be on for driver to have better visability of me.

I find that the headlight on my 2020 2.5L R3r is pretty much perfect out of the box, so haven't even given it a thought so far.

The horn is a different matter though. That got swapped in the first year.

It needs attitude.

Am open to seeing new ideas for the headlights, but I really like the existing headlight design. I wonder what others envision? Maybe it is a better idea - I haven’t seen it.

Like the rest of the bike, the existing big round lights are a balance between elegant machine and outsized brute. Polished, a little refined, yet blunt. Unapologetic throwbacks.

It’s like looking at a 1960’s Ford Shelby Cobra and saying, gee, I think what it really needs are modern Ford headlight treatments. Naw.

Now the US market front turn signals and tail light assembly? THOSE cheesy things I’d love to see a complete redesign of.

I remember riding through country Queensland on my way to the first Rockets Downunder at Hervey Bay in 2012. Sitting at the front of two columns of 20 Rockets and seeing a double stream of those twin headlights in the mirror was a sight that I’ll never forget. The headlights on the R and GT are even better and perfect for the bike.
Just on the one on, one off look on so many other bikes I agree 100% that it’s aweful. It’s actually one the the deciding points that caused me to swap a perfectly good Tiger 900 for a Tiger 1200. The 1200 has two low (outside) and two hi beam (inside) headlights, plus cornering lights tucked underneath on each side. The Tiger lights wouldn’t suit a Rocket but is the sort of alternative setup that that you should look at.

Here’s a render I have been working on, little sportier but gives and ode to the dual headlights.
