Triumph Quit Ignoring Your Ignition Problems

I put the EB on my 2012 R3R per HansO's suggestion.
20K miles, including criss crossing the country with no problemas.

Hey Bull:

I thought that the "problem" was addressed with the 2012's with the addition of a relay.

Must be correct, as that information was provided to me here.

My info was that it was actually only partially fixed and the new wiring does not totally bypass the ignition switch.
I did the mod for peace of mind and for those who travel long distances from home, I recommend it.
Perhaps HansO shall jump in here and help out????

I'm sure you're right, but it does make you wonder why Triumph, knowing there was a problem, went to the effort to only partially address it.

Hopefully mine will "behave."

Hi all although my rocket is 2009 I only have 1600 miles on it 1000 miles more than before I got hold of it! (long story friends ex wife didn't like it so Santa gave it to me in December 2013) I have done the single relay mod posted by Battersea as a just in case as the bikes my daily ride , the cost of parts was about £10 and an hour of my time surely when priced into production that would be next to nothing .

my 2012 rocket had to get a new ecu & wiring loom a few months ago & all has been well since till yesterday .

yesterday it took about 10 attempts to start it then once it was going ( for 5 miles ) the engine management light never went of .

when i got back on the bike after stopping it started ok but the engine management light stayed on again .

after another mile i stopped at a shop & it started ok & the engine management light went off , i thought great its ok .

after a few mile i was on a dual carriageway & i thought i'd open it up as i'm always going slow ! , i overtook 3 cars the bike in 3rd gear & just got to 5000 rpm & it died !

i pulled in & after a bit it started up ( often when i pressed the start button nothing would happen ) once it started i got about a 100 meters & it died on a small roundabout ( thank fk i never dropped it ) .

i phoned the aa & the mechanic checked for loose relays & checked a few multi point connectors & the bike seemed ok , he said i'll follow you up the road if you want , said ok & before i even got on it it died again so he ordered a van to take me & the bike home .

today i lifted the tank & undid a few multi point connectors & connected them back up & try'd the bike , it started 3 times as it should & no engine management light great i thought a loose wire maybe , a few hours later i headed out & 100 meters later it died again then so i headed round the block back to my house & again it died !

my bike was 2 years old last month so its out of warranty .

i've not read all the previous posts , has anyone got any idea what could be up with it please ?

i have not heard of any ecu problems, what happen to yours to need wiring and ecu?
if the light comes on while running it probably has a trouble code stored in ecu. the code # might help.
most of the time when a computer is bad it will start acting up after it has been running a while.
i think that most on here will recommend getting the tune ecu or something simulator to try to diagnose the prob.

TuneECU will tell you what the CEL is, and remove codes as well. If the bike is only a month out of warranty then I would immediately call the dealer and try to geet it fixed as a warranty claim. If the dealer is any good then he will go to bat for you and get Triumph to cover it.

i got the bike when it was 9 months old & all was well for about 9 months .

then the bike started cutting out , miss firing & the revs went up & down themselves .

the dealer had a look , it turned out most of the pins on the ecu had gone black & if i mind right a few pins had fell off , the wiring on the loom at the ecu's multi point connector were starting to corrode to , when the loom got changed the wiring fell apart at the rear abs so the loom must of been fkd .

i'll go & see the dealer today .

i went to the dealers today , he said to take it in tomorrow & they'll plug it in to the computer to see whats up with it .
