Good point there that wire is kind of short. I think its mentioned somewhere when pulling the motor but I cannot remember. I used the manuals instructions when I pulled mine and don't believe I would have caught it if it had not mentioned it.

Yes its at the back of the head and a long Philips screw driver ca reach it from the air box side where the snorkel used to come thru. Also if you have not removed the fuel tank I find it easier to work on things with it off and put somewhere off to the side where it will not get damaged. Just drape a rag over the engine so when you loosen the fuel line what little is in the line will get caught by the rag. the fuel in the tank will not leak out. If yours is on its blocking your view of the oil sending unit.

That nut should spin freely if you have the castle/motor miunt nut loose as it is on the other end of the bolt.I have not yet gone looking for the oil sending unit at the top and back of the head yet , I am working from easy to more challenging nut and bolts removal I thought just maybe I could remove the outputshaft cover but there is iust one bolt that is too long I was even thinking of cutting it with an angle grinder ....nah!!
right now my problem is the inside nut of the upper left rear engine mount see picture there is there a 17 mm nut and of course it spin when I rotate the bolt on the outside now how jake and fred managed to hold the sucker .so the bolt could be spun free . I also had to remove all of the exhaust as the header on the jardine prevented to remove another bolt on the right side
