tranny problems? maybe?

The Triumph factory transmission update kit part numbers are T1000008 (silver engine) or T1000009 (black engine)...

That and 16 hours of labor from the dealer...

If ok with the dealer you could remove the engine yourself @ozrider did this and the dealer charged him for 6 hours labour. Oh and the dealer got the parts under warranty from Triumph for his 2006 Classic.

Since the price of a update kit has gone up to 1200 bucks. I would do it myself unless the dealer gives you a break. Taking the engine out is the time consuming and difficult part. Cracking he open and changing the Trans parts is nothing.

I just went through that, it's a "skip", then catches, it gets expensive if you start chewing up gears, better get it fixed.

So, I have done a few searches and I couldn't find any problem similar to mine. So under heavy throttle in first and sometimes second gear there will be a noticeable gap or slack in, what I think is, the transmission. It's almost as though it disengaged and re-engages a split second latter. it does not happen all the time as I've tried to replicate it and could not. What is concerning about it is it make a rather nasty clunk sound when re-engagement occurs, but so far it seems no ill effects. Any thoughts or ideas?

I can't believe it, but it seems my 2014 R3R is experiencing this... definitely in first gear only. I just dropped it off at the Triumph dealer and they recreated the issue easily. All I have to do is get into first, fully release the clutch, and as you start to pull away give it some decent throttle and it seems to jump out of first, back into first, etc. When it jumps in feels like getting kicked in the back. None of the other gears show the issue. I am the second owner and have not had it long (bike only has 5000 miles on it). When I first noticed it, I thought my rear wheel was spinning- but nope. At first I also couldn't recreate it as described above, but as I rode more seemed to get worse so I got it right into Triumph service. I've been riding bikes for 25 years- never experienced anything like it before. Thank goodness I am still in warranty.
