"Tires on my 2005 rocket 3!

I have a 2005 r3 which i bought three years ago and i still have the original tires on the bike; The tires are in great shape with much tread on them with only about 3,000 miles on the bike and the tires, they are the Metzler 880s. Some people say i should replace them and others say they are fine as long as i ride within human limits, what do you guys suggest as far as when i should replace these tires.

Mileage means nothing when the tires are 14 years old.

Yep they were junk when they were new so I'm sure they didn't get any better. Time for a bridgestone set

Not one more mile on these old tires. Well maybe a mile or two is OK. Like to the tire shop. Or you can pull your wheels off and take them to the tire shop. Get a pair of Avon Cobra tires from Rocky Mountain ATV. Get the 140/75R17 for the front. Improves cornering handling immensely.

way I read it tires are only 3 years old or so (granted still 3 years old) not the original tires from bike being new

Avon tires are ok tires in my experience.
Do your research here.
Are you a easy riding, moderate, pretty good or balls to the wall rider?

geno, do you mean the bike is an 05, and only has 3000 miles on it, and still has the original metzler tires? If so, like has been said, new tires, and ride that puppy! Rode my 05 today, and it has Avons, and 63,000 miles! Now, I do have another 05 with only 3000 miles, but is sorta setup for drag racing, and don't get rode much, and it does have the original metzler front tire, that I will replace before I go down the track. When I took the rear wheel to the tire shop, to have a CT tire mounted, I asked the guy to look at the manufacture date on the original metzler, 2004! He couldn't believe it. Bike was in storage for awhile before I bought it. Old tires can look good, but rubber don't last forever, not worth risking your life over the price of a new set.
