Just a suggestion but it would be better (I think, only my opinion and that ain't worth much)(just ask my wiffe) if you tried to have this meeting closer too mid-summer. The weather is more stable then than in the spring or fall.

Begging your pardon, but that would kinda depend on where they're riding to. Mid-summer in THESE parts (KS-MO) is not necessarily ideal riding weather. Though it *can* be pleasant, you run a very high risk of weather that's horrendously hot and unstable too. This year the majority of mid-summer days were in the ballpark of 100 if not over--hotter than average summer yes, but we always have a lot of very hot mid-summer days!

Early fall is "generally speaking" some of our best and most stable riding weather, IF the term "stable" can ever be applied to a state where I've been in glorious sunshine and a tornadic storm within the same hour...and that was MO--in KS it's more like 20 min.

Swanee (Ironbutter) is right... on the average this should have been a winderful fall weekend here in the midwest anyway... for sure the best time of year to ride around here. The United States is so big that if we have people coming from both coasts someone is bound to hit some "weather" somewhere. The event this year was put together by Vonbonds and Ugarte, I really didn't have any input on the date.... maybe over the winter we can pick a time and location that will work for most folks. As always... you can't please all of the people all of the time... but what the heck... its fun trying.

I think if Ugarte had more time and this storm wasn't merging together things would be cool. He really had almost no room for error. I have driven in a car from Omaha to L.A. several times and it took me three or four days (depending on which trip you are talking about). To do it on a bike in two days would be a feat. Maybe we could organize some regional events or meetings that wouldn't take a whole week. Its tough for some people to get off of work or away from the family for that period of time. We will have all winter to think about it :D.

Anyway... the rest of us are still on for this Sunday...

Vonbonds... keep in touch buddy... let us know where you are at.... :D

Well, my status so far. It is midnight and in classic fashion I have barely packed anything. Tomorrow morning I will cram a bunch of crap in my saddle bags and Nelson Rigg packs in 15 minutes and then shove off. This is the only way I travel, half ass and to far away places...mmmm mmmm good :) :bch:.

Rockets Across America head count for Sedalia

Who's the official head counter for if there is one?

Have a friend who rides a V-Strom coming along. He never met a BBQ joint he didn't like so all I had to do was mention this. If the restaurant needs to know size of the party please add 1 to final count.

Here's the list as of Sept 22nd

The list, so far, meeting at Kehde's BBQ in Sedalia Missouri, Sunday September 24th 2006 @ noon, looks like this:

Coming for sure:

Hondax
Tomo
Tomo's mystery guest.
Pianoman
Patrick
Vonbonds
Rusty
Raymond Braswell
Beautiful friend of Raymond Braswell.
Regular looking friend of Raymond Braswell
Another regular looking friend of Raymond Braswell
Pergy
BigErn
Swanee
Swanee's friend

The NOT for sure:

Danno?
Danno's wife?
Denny, friend of Vonbonds from TRat.net?
Doug33?
Unknown number of Doug33 friends?

Doug33 attendance?

Hey Tomo, look at reply #69. I'm not certain that Doug33 has any chance of making the meeting. Sounds like he is off the "Not for sure" list, as well as any participants that may have wished to escort him???

See ya soon.

Here's a thought.

I don't recall reading this in the comments made thus far in this thread, but, will there be a "contact" cell phone number to call should anyone happen to experience a "slow-down"? At least that way the rest of the party would know the delay & take action accordingly (proceed without them). Maybe that's part of this kind of gathering, or maybe not. This is my first opportunity to attend a "social event on wheels".

Once again, just a thought. I typically do not have a cell phone on me but I know the wife will not take "NO" for an answer in this instance.

Informal group ride protocol (IF there is such a thing) is to give maybe a few minutes grace period past the official "kickstands up" time IF somebody said they were for sure coming and has not shown up. After that "proceed without them" is generally what happens, IME.
