Rockets Across America!!!!

One less captain!

Hey everyone, Ugarte knows that Doug33 is not able to make it, correct? Wasn't they planning to get together in Colorado somewhere (Denver) and ride together to KC? Just wanted to assure that Ugarte had been updated.

See you guys soon.

Thanks Rusty.....I won't be making it either as it turns out.

I planned on leaving today but I am going to bail on this ride due to weather along the two possible routes (Colorado or Wyoming) I would take to Blue Springs. I have been checking the long-term weather forecast for about a week now and it has looked pretty good until yesterday, and again today. Most disturbing to me is how things changed so fast in what should be a mild time of the year! Tomorrow’s forecast may be better but I have to make the call on what it looks like today. I only have 5 ½ days to do the out and return (3500 miles) plus hang out on Sunday at the bbq. Not much time for detours or delays.

I am going to ride down the Pacific Coast through Big Sur instead….

Have a great time in Sedalia everyone!

ACCUWEATHER

“An impressive storm system will spiral into the western High Plains Thursday with severe thunderstorms, showers and even snow falling. Warm and moist air will ride northward ahead of this system and it will produce showers and thunderstorms and combined with a strong jet overhead, some of these thunderstorms will become severe today. Large hail and damaging winds will accompany the strongest of thunderstorms. Farther northward, away from the jet stream, showers will soak the central and northern Plains. With a cool northeast wind and gray skies, temperatures will remain on the cool side, with a few locations as much as 15 degrees below normal. To the west through the northern Rockies, snow will fall at the higher elevations. Across the Rockies in central Colorado, as much as 10 inches of snow will fall through Thursday and with snow elevations falling to 7,000 feet, some sloppier travel will be expected through the mountains.”

Completely understood!

With the words used describing the potential weather to come, I could not blame you in the least. I'm not certain our ride will be completely dry, even for those of us traveling a short distance.

Hope there is a lot of warm sun for you down the coast. Ride safe & I'm certain photos will be posted of the group in the Midwest.

What is the forecast for this weekend in KC? I see Indianapolis is going to be quite cold but I can deal with that. The only two events I would worry about is snow which seems unlikely this time of year in the great plains but the other is severe thunderstorms.

Getting started

Hey vonbonds, what time will your day get started tomorrow? How long do you plan on being in the saddle? You may run across a good, well endowed "butt" masseuse on your first layover. If you do, don't forget to get a phone number so if I plan a trip toward your direction, I could also take advantage of the layover activities as well .

See ya soon.

HAHA...Rusty, I will let everyone know the number if I come across one of those :).

I plan on leaving between 8 - 8:30am tomorrow. It will depend on the morning traffic report. I will have to make my way through part of the rush hour traffic to get onto I-70. I will take that to Indianapolis, IN to stay with a good buddy of mine. Hopefully get a nice steak Friday night and head out around the same time Saturday morning for the hotel. Hopefully I will get there by the late afternoon. It will all depend on traffic and weather I suppose.

I am pretty pumped up for this!

Hey Ugarte!!

We will miss you but I think everyone understands. If you've never been in the high plains the weather can be swift changing and deadly. Its been a totally unseasonable summer with the heat and now its freakishly turned cool, below normal for this time of year.

Maybe we can put something together for next year in warmer weather and so that everyone can take a little more time off. I was worried about you riding that far in so little time even with good weather.

The good news is... the storm that Ugarte would have hit is supposed to lift to the northeast so hopefully Vonbonds will ride under it... it will probably hit Flip :D.

Both Saturday and Sunday look dry here in KC but cooler... lows in the 50's and highs 65 to 70... so we should be OK on this end. Hopefully there is nothing for Bigern to dodge comming up from Sooner land...

Stay tuned kids!!

Venue.

Tomo:

Just a suggestion but it would be better (I think, only my opinion and that ain't worth much)(just ask my wiffe) if you tried to have this meeting closer too mid-summer. The weather is more stable then than in the spring or fall. Besides, I prefer ladies in shorts over jeans in cooler weather (dirty old man).

Next year, if my B-I-L BanjoBart actually gets off his duff and does the R3 thing, you can count us in. This time of year is bad for me....it's harvest time and you are right, the storm is forecast on NOAA to unload a bunch of rain here on Saturday, adding to the brownness of my 3rd., cut alfalfa. Heck, cattle will eat it, they are color blind anyway. If they get real hungry they eat about anything.;)

Even if Bart waffles, I'll plan on coming. Bart has been blowing smoke up my posterior about a R3 even before I bought mine. I want to visit Engels anyway and Baxter Cycle someday. I want to drool over the Meriden bikes there.

Years ago, I was engaged to a gal in KC. Wonder if she's still around?? (not bringing my wiffe). It's a "guy" thing, right?? She's probably "still around" with 6 kids and a pot belly. Oh well. Not all of us age gracefully.:)

Be sure to take plenty of digitals and post 'em like our Finnish Rocket Captain.:D
