Rockets Across America VI -Fall Launch

OH HELL NO, IM NOT TALKIN ABOUT PARADE RIDING...I HAVE BEEN IN MORE MCS THEN YOU WILL EVER GUESS, MY 2 BROTHERS ARE OVER A MC CLUB IN CANADA NOW, SO EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PARADE RIDING FOR CHARITY, I TAKE OFFENSE TO YOUR ASSUMING MY LACK OF KNOWLEDGE IN CLUB OR GROUP RIDING......I HOPE YOU TAKE CARE OF MY GROUP,THEY ARE A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE BECOME MY CLOSE FRIENDS, THATS THE LAST STRAW FOR ME!!!!!

Now who is upset?

I'm sorry if I insulted you...I didn't mean too.

If you have a larger group it is going to contain a larger variation of riding preferences.

A responsible leader is gonna try and set a safe pace for all...which means even the slowest in the group.

Some are gonna want to go faster than the group because they are bored silly.

That's why you get the "Evil Knievels" jumpin out and sometimes being dangerous.

Smaller groups...5-8 have an advantage of having less variation.

Cell phones and radios are great but they don’t work everywhere. A tail gunner with a satellite phone would be nice. Or a chase truck. But we really don't NEED that.

Still we want to be organized enough to keep track of everyone.

I probably have over-used the parade comments ... sorry.

BUT leading a Rocket ride with a van!!?? It just flabbergasts me.

Ogre,

I take offense to your comments about the van. I have done more than my share of RAA events and if you ever bothered to ride the rides you would know that everyone is always allowed to ride at there own pace and there are designated meeting spots along the route. If I choose the ride the support vehicle in front on a ride it is for a good reason. Just remember a ride captain you are responsible for everyone in the group. So be safe and do not Judge what you have not done before. You will soon find out there is more to organizing one of the events than you ever thought.

Good Luck guys with your Fall Launch

Well I guess I am offending most everyone, Steve.

I have no intention of taking over this event. I just wanted to combine some of those shorter rts, that you provided, into full day rides and add some from the site that was linked from the Hub's site.

I have organized Rides and Rocket Salvos..I actually have done this before.

I understand that you were doing what you thought was the safest way....and for a large group maybe your way was the best.

I think that large groups have that disadvantage. To be safe for all it is boring for some.

That's what started me on this in the first place.

Back in KY, I passed the van and went on at my own pace solo.

Then I found a nice pull off by a turn and videoed you and the group mosey on by...

With a frustrated cager behind you....you were going too slow for a normal car and he was trapped behind a long line of bikes.

Smaller groups can avoid or lessen this type of problem. Maybe you don't see it as a problem. That cager did, I'll bet. Luckily he had brains. Some don't they try and pass the parade and take out multiple bikes in the process.

Faster small groups rarely have to worry about holding up traffic. Slower small groups can more easily be passed safely OR be considerate and let traffic by them.

In a large group...the leader has no idea how much traffic is way back behind him.

I thought the differences between .com & .net were a thing of the past & wanted to get to know some .net people but all I seem to do is make enemies.

No enemies made here only friends ... There are many way to offer up a ride and what you proposed seems like a logical approach. This has nothing to do about the .com vs .net it is the manner in which you communicate your ideas. I might suggest that in the future express you ideas without criticizing others and you might get a better outcome. You guys have a great time in arkansas and if there is anything I can do to help please let me know....

Hey, I'm in it for the beer.
Well, that and the ride.
No animosity or hatred here, only love,
most of us are old hippy's anyway...
lived through all that and still like to ride,
so lets just have a good time with it..

I would like to thank ogre for trying to plan rides for our fall launch,
Lupe for getting us set up at the Hub.
And Steve for his suggestions even though him and Katy cannot make the launch.
I think maybe a little more understanding and less criticizing and illness would be nice though.
We are all different in our ways and maybe we should understand each others differences and learn to adapte and overcome fussing doesn't seem to be the best way.....just my 2 cents....now lay it in me I've got broad shoulders. ;)
