Having lain a bike down on asphalt, I was smart not to have been riding with shorts. Always ride with jeans. Even in NEOH summers, which are hot and humid, jeans will save your skin. Coolest weather I ride in is high 50s, and the warmth off those 3 cylinders is appreciated!
Any years past I would with no helmet or shirt on a hot day out in the deserts.
My brother went down from a high side with no helmet. Brain injury, months of hospital surgeries and care, lost his thriving business, and he has now on disability for the past 35 years.
Insurance exhausted long ago, and millions of dollars paid by US taxpayers!
How is this personal “freedom”fair to others?
That’s the reason California lawmakers made the helmet law mandatory in 1992. The state was paying out multimillions for emergency surgery for head trauma injuries every year in the 70’s and 80’s. The lawmakers didn’t make the law because they were concerned for the ‘riding’ citizens they were realizing how much money was being spent on injuries from uninsured and underinsured riders/motorists. The state had to pick up the tab. It’s not like the Hospitals and insurance company carriers don’t f*** you at every turn but that’s for another time.
ABATE in arizona fought for the right to chose to wear or not
i always wear a helmet but i would hate to get a ticket if someone stole my helmet

lol
"It's for the good of the people" is a phrase used to justify all sorts of forced behaviors. I can imagine a time when the government will demand all citizens accept certain medical procedures to protect others. Not doing so could result in loss of job or promotion, education opportunities or freedom to travel.
I agree that I should live my life in a way that doesn't put others in undue risk but determining the line where that ends and my personal freedoms are forfeit is a blurry one.
Humph, we already had that in nz during covid. People lost their jobs cos they didn't want to be vaccinated. Over now n Cindy has gone. Folk still remember though. Didn't worry me, I got the jab no worries.
