If you have headlight relays then is just the pump current (also the starter solenoid current when cranking - that is about 10A - but that is short duration)
So most likely the crimps are poor and the pump current is enough to be doing the damage

If you divert that pump current away from the key-switch connectors that will help
(but you may want to re-terminate that white/blue wire in the connector regardless)

Thanks for the diagram

Now that I have had some time to think the newer updated connectors have been in 20,000+ miles before the Eastern Beaver kit was added so it might be from when the full load went thru the ignition switch that created the heat problem.
